Establishment

The IMF was established in 1944 during the Bretton Woods Conference, along with the World Bank. 

Its primary purpose was to foster global monetary cooperation, secure financial stability, facilitate international trade, promote high employment and sustainable economic growth, and reduce poverty around the world.

Membership 

The IMF has 190 member countries as of my last update

Each member country contributes funds to the IMF's pool based on its economic size and importance in the global economy. These funds are then made available to member countries facing balance of payments problems or economic crises.

Functions and Objectives

Surveillance: The IMF monitors the economic and financial policies of its member countries and provides advice on how to improve policies to achieve macroeconomic stability and sustainable growth
