The story of Rolesville High School is short, but is one full of community pride. In just the 10 years since it has opened its doors, it has quickly become a main feature of the community it serves and beyond.

Rolesville High School is located in rural Wake County, just on the outskirts of Raleigh, North Carolina. A school that serves over 2300 students, RHS provides a small-town feel in the heart of Rolesville, a traditional farm town. But it hasn’t always been that way….

Rolesville High School began its existence when Wake Forest University decided to leave the small town of Wake Forest and move to Winston Salem

With the University gone and a large school building left behind, the two small farming communities on the outskirts of Raleigh, Wake Forest and Rolesville, sought to improve the education of the young in their communities. They founded Wake Forest-Rolesville High School.

For many years, both towns lived in harmony and boasted great pride in the high school both academically and athletically. However, as both towns began to grow, the communities began to split and seek their own identities.

The town of Rolesville sought a school that could represent their community and identity as a diverse small town. With the support of the Wake County Public School System, residents from in and around Rolesville began to craft their vision for the school and what it would mean for their community.

After years of town meetings and school board hearings, plans for the school finally came to fruition. The school opened its doors to its first round of Freshman and Sophomore students in the Fall of 2013.

Since then, Rolesville High School has quickly become a centerpiece of town pride. Every year students, faculty, and community members who have gone above and beyond in their contributions to the Rolesville Community are awarded the distinguished title of Legacy by RHS.

Around the holidays the community and school come together to celebrate in a variety of ways. One of these events is known as Reindeer Day. On Reindeer Day, over 160 community vendors converge on the school to sell a variety of local goods, including food, jewelry, children’s toys, home decorations and more. The event is always highly attended and proceeds from the event help the PTSA provide scholarships to senior students.

The most fun holiday event is the participation of the school in the annual Rolesville Christmas Parade. Almost every sports team and many clubs from the school come to march in the parade. Seeing so many of the town’s teenagers brings joy to the community and serves as inspiration to the future generation of RHS students.

Over the last two years, the achievements of the Rolesville Rams Football & Basketball Teams have attracted immense recognition to the school, not just from the small town but from many across the state. It is not uncommon for these sports events to be so highly attended that they become standing room only. One may even get to see the mayor of Rolesville in attendance!
