TRADITIONAL DANCES OF ITALY

The tarantella is the most popular traditional dance of Lower Italy, also known as "the spider dance". Named after the tarantula spider named after the Italian city of Taranto, where the species is found.
Salento also means pizzica salentina, meaning dance. The original pizzica salentina takes us back around 1300 as a pre-education ritual, while the first news as a dance date back to the 18th century.

TRADITIONAL ITALIAN COSTUMES
Fashion and tradition have always been intertwined in Italy. Italian traditional clothing, known as “tracht” or “trachten”, has a long and rich history, deeply rooted in the country’s culture and heritage. The clothing of Italy reflects the country’s diverse regional cultures and has distinct features that make them unique.

TRACHTEN
One of the most iconic pieces of traditional Italian clothing is the pizzica dress, which comes from the Puglia region. The pizzica dress is a colourful dress with a long, flowing skirt and a tight-fitting bodice. It is usually made from bright, colourful fabrics, such as cotton or linen, and features intricate embroidery or lacework.

PIZZICA DRESS
Another iconic piece of Italian traditional clothing is the camicia, which is a traditional Italian shirt. The camicia is usually made from lightweight cotton or linen and features a loose, flowing design with a ruffled neckline and cuffs. It is often paired with a vest or jacket, such as the gilè, which is a traditional Italian vest that is worn over the camicia.
CAMICIA

In addition to the pizzica dress and camicia, there are many other traditional Italian clothing pieces, such as the zimarra, which is a long, flowing robe that is worn over formal clothing. The zimarra is typically made from silk or velvet and is often adorned with gold or silver embroidery.
ZIMARRA

The first day of May is celebrated as Labor Day, which is also a national holiday. Protests or public demonstrations held by trade unions happen throughout the country to raise awareness about the issues and problems faced by laborers. Other than this, certain concerts and events are held in Rome on this day.
ITALIAN FESTIVALS

The Carnival in Venice

The Carnival in Venice was first documented in 1296, with a proclamation by the Venetian Senate announcing a public festival the day before the start of Lent. During the Renaissance, masked comic performers performed in Venice's piazzas. It is the most important event in the city and the biggest Carnival celebration in Italy.

Coasa
Literally "the scythe" and similar to a tarantella, it does not have a precise text, it is danced in very few places in Romanian Moldova and in the Republic of Moldova

Sarba (Cырба) in Cyrillic, is a typical Romanian dance and that of the entire Balkan area. They dance in a circle holding hands, with alternating steps, going first from left to right, then in the opposite direction.

Ciuleandra
The "Ciuleandra" is a dance, very similar to the sirtaki, danced in Romania. It is also known in Macedonia and Greece.
In the Oltenia region the soil is very fertile in rainy periods; in periods of drought, however, the wind carries pollen from harmful herbs (ciulini), a sort of wild thistle with large seeds covered with a thorny shell, which, in addition to remaining on clothes, sticks to the sheep's wool. This dance was danced to ward off this nefarious event: the name in fact means "Dance of evil herbs".
The song that accompanies the dance is by Maria Tănase

Alunelul
The alunelu (or alunelul) also originates from Oltenia, but is also danced in other regions. The ethymology of the name of the dance and its origin are uncertain: according to some it was danced by Romanian children who gave it the name of a fruit, "little hazelnut" "aluna". According to Theodor Vasilescu "alunelu" could also be traced back to "A luiNelu"; according to this interpretation Nelu would be the diminutive of the given name "Ion - Ionel - Nelu", the title would therefore mean "The dance of Nelu

Romanian folk costume is a mix of local tradition, geographical position, climate and economic possibilities. It is an emblem of recognition, a sign of ethnic identity, a document of undoubted historical and artistic value. This garment accompanied man in all the fundamental events of his life, from birth to death.
“The secrets of the artisanal art of making clothes were not learned from books, but from the women of the village. They have been passed down from generation to generation. Girls did not marry until they knew how to spin and weave. While they weaved, the women prayed; the popular costume, therefore, was the reflection of the soul of the woman, who, with skill and mastery, sewed her clothes with all her soul, naturally immortal. She sewed every leaf, flower, figure. She kept every phase of the work in her memory, the clothes embroidered in this way were real spiritual weapons, ensuring protection from demons. By dressing in these popular clothes, man dresses with the entire universe, therefore the popular costume represents a symbolic recapitulation of the entire mythology and cosmogony of the origins” (Pavel Panduru – “The meaning of the Romanian national costume”)
The traditional costume consists of a shirt, precisely the Ia, a long skirt and a decorated apron is worn over the skirt. The Ia is woven in the shape of a cross, from a single piece of cloth, usually linen or wool.
