     Jewish people follow a set of rules that 

determines what they are allowed to eat 

together, how the food is prepared, and what 

foods are prohibited from being eaten at all.  

Foods that Jewish people are allowed to eat 

which are prepared accordingly are called 

kosher foods.

     Shabbat is a day when Jewish people are 

meant to eat hot food, but are to refrain from 

cooking.   Therefore, the food is prepared in 

advance the day before and kept warm 

overnight.

     Passover is the spring holiday in which the 

Jewish People celebrate the Exodus of the Jews 

from slavery in Egypt.   The meal pictured here 

is the Seder.   Special foods are made for this 

meal and the Passover lasts for seven days in 

the Israeli tradition.
