The “14 hours” movie was all about how the hospital staffs and emergency team saved the patients at Memorial Hermann Hospital, during the occurrence of Typhoon Allison which causes flood and power outbreak. The movie started when Jeanette brought a cake to the hospital for her friend Lily, who is a NICU nurse and is about to resign. A surgeon ate a large part of the cake that annoyed Jeanette. Then a chopper arrived with a two patients from a car crash accident. Those patients is a mother and daughter. During operation of the mother, who had a car crash accident, Typhoon Allison hit Houston. The storm causes flood and power outbreak to the hospital. Jeanette, Jody, and the other two nurses get and transfer the blood from the hospitals basement. The operation continued despite the blackout and the nurses at the NICU continuously monitor the premature babies. Jeanette and the two nurses successfully transfer the blood from the basement. Some staff almost drown in the flood because the water is rising. Nevertheless, when the typhoon is over, they save the patients, most specially the patient in the operating room and the premature babies. It is also great that there were volunteers who help the hospital staff to evacuate the patients for a better recovery. The staffs shows how they manage to face and overcome the occurrence of Typhoon Allison. Everybody salutes them for their bravery and dedication in saving lives of the patients during the times of disaster.

It’s true that “The Nurse is the Heart of the Hospital’. The nurses have a big contribution to the hospital especially to the lives of the patients. For me, nurses are one of the most important persons in the hospital. They are the ones who take care of the patients in times of crisis. They can risk their lives saving others, just like the scene from the movie. Nurses are equipped with knowledge and skills which are needed in taking care of the patients. Those knowledge and skills is a big help for the wellness of the clients. Just like the heart, the nurses also have empathy to the patients, wherein they can give comfort and support to the patients. I also experienced being comforted by the nurse when my brother was in critical condition. They assesses and communicate problems to the doctors, protects the patients. Nurses have the courage to question the doctors order when they know it’s not right. They are there with the patients as they battled and overcome their illness. Nurses are truly the heart of the hospital, because the hospital cannot function without nurses just like the human body cannot function without its heart.
