Once upon a time, in a little town called Decimalville, lived a bright and curious boy named Tommy. Tommy loved numbers and enjoyed counting everything he saw.
But there was one thing that puzzled him: decimals. No matter how hard he tried, he just couldn’t understand them.
One sunny morning, Tommy’s teacher, Mrs. Jenkins, announced a special Math Fair.
“Everyone will have a project,” she said.
“Tommy, I want you to find a way to explain decimals in real life. I know you can do it!”

Tommy gulped. How could he explain something he didn’t understand himself?

That afternoon, Tommy sat under the big oak tree in his backyard, thinking hard. Suddenly, his little sister Lily came running over with an ice cream cone.
“Tommy, look! I got this for only ₱2.25 at Mr. VM store!”

Tommy’s eyes widened. “Two pesos and and twenty-five cents? But that’s a decimal!
Lily, how do you know what that means?”

Lily giggled. “It’s simple, silly! A two pesos is a whole, and twenty-five cents is just a part of that whole. It’s like 2 and 0.25. See?”

Tommy scratched his head.

So, it’s like a whole pizza, and twenty-five cents is a piece of that pizza?

Lily nodded.
Tommy’s eyes lit up. “I think I get it now!”

Exactly! If a whole pizza is ₱99.00, then twenty-four and seventy-five cents is one-fourth of it. It’s 24.75!

The next day, Tommy decided to explore Decimalville to see more examples of decimals in action. First, he went to the bakery. Mr. Green, the baker, was selling cookies for ₱5.50 each. Tommy realized that fifty cents was half a dollar. “So, 0.50 is like half of a whole Peso!” he thought.

Next, Tommy visited the fruit store where Mrs. Brown was selling three apples for ₱37. “That’s twelve pesos and thirty-three cents,” Tommy said to himself.

Feeling more confident, Tommy went to the library to find a book on decimals. As he was browsing, he bumped into Mr. Adams, the librarian. “What brings you here today, Tommy?” he asked.
“I’m trying to learn about decimals for the Math Fair,” Tommy explained.
