Chapter 1: Christmas Eve.
Hi, its Gertrude. It's been a while since I've written in this Diary. I think it's because I want to save the pages to write down some special occasions. Anyway, today is Christmas Eve and I'm very excited! Things at school are going better than ever, well for me at least. I don't get teased at anymore and I get to wear my normal, colorful, everyday clothes. I also joined a type of girl club that does stuff around the school and the community, like bake sales, a few fairs, and anything that helps raise money for something. Clarice joined the club too. All the girls in the club are really nice. I know around this time school is closed just for the holiday, but the club still has something planned. I wonder what it is.
Chapter 2: The Idea.
Later today, I had a meeting with the girls and Clarice at my house. Skyler, a girl in the club, said, "Alright, I know we didn't tell some of you guys what we're planning, but we are making a little gather around in a place in the community. It's a place where you can play Christmas games, buy some Christmas things, like food, decorations, and even a place for children to sit on Santa's lap to say what they want for Christmas." "That's a good idea, but how are we going to do all of that? We barely have time since its Christmas Eve." said Clarice. A girl who's name is Sarah said, "Since some of you guys didn't know, me and the other girls already did some of the things for the Christmas event. The things that are
left are making the Christmas treats and presents." I thought for a moment and stood up and said, "Me and Clarice can do the rest. I can do the Christmas treats myself since I like to bake. I think Clarice is going to need help with the presents because of the money and wrapping paper, so the other girls can help her." "Ok, then it's settled. The price with the other things have been already decided, but we didn't think of the price for the treats and presents, so I suggest that we do that right now," said Skyler. After we discussed about the prices for the Christmas treats and presents, it was time for the girls to leave. Now I just have to make all the treats by myself. What could possibly go wrong?
Chapter 3: A Mess.
I get started right away. I put all the ingredients in the bowl and then whisk the batter. Then I get cookie shaped cutters and a tray for the cookie shapes to cook on. During the middle of my process, Rodrick comes and asks, "What are you doing?" I want to ask him to leave, but instead I say, "I'm making cookies." Rodrick looks like he's thinking for a moment and then says, "Are you making all of them for me?" he says with a huge grin on his face. "No, I'm making them for a little event for that the club is hosting." Rodrick's grin fades a lot. "Aw, come on! Is there anything that you will be doing in your life that doesn't deal with the club?" He's acting too dramatic right now as he sinks to the floor by the counter. I sigh
and go beside him. "Alright, here's the deal. I'll get a brownie from the pantry and you can eat it and then after I'm done baking, I'll let you have one cookie from a batch ok?" Rodrick turns to me with a look that means he doesn't want to do that and then he turns away. I sigh again, but then he turns around with a grin on his face again and says, "Ok!" He gets up and walks away from the kitchen. That was weird, but I'm glad that he decided to go with the idea. I get up and go to the pantry. the sweet things are at the top of the pantry, since mom and dad don't want me and Rodrick to eat that much sweets, but I think they forgot I have a growth spurt, so I'm able to reach almost anything. After I get a brownie, I go back to the kitchen just to see it in a mess. Oh no! This is bad!
Mom usually likes the kitchen clean and she is not very happy when its a mess and I think from the pantry, I heard a car honk from outside. Mom and dad are already home! And its true when the door opens. I don't want to tell you what happened, but I'll just say a few words; Mom goes into the kitchen with groceries, sees the mess, shrieks, me and Rodrick come into the kitchen, mom looks at us, and Rodricks points at me. Alright, I know, that wasn't a few words, and I was saying it fast, but here are few a more words I want to say; I'm in trouble.
Chapter 4: The Tower.
I don't know how, but I didn't make a mess! When I bake or make a creative craft, I'm usually organized and I don't make messes when I do either of those! But mom wouldn't listen to anything of those reasons. She thought it was just an excuse and now I'm sent to the tower. Before you get confused, the tower is just a room that hardly has stuff in it. Its a room that mom and dad decided to put me and Rodrick in when we do something bad. There's nothing to do in it, so its practically a good place to put a troublemaker in. To me and Rodrick, it feels like a jail for royalty, so that's why we call it the tower. During my time in the tower, I think about what happened. The only way for a mess like that to happen
would be caused by a blender, but I wasn't making a smoothie, I just used the oven. So, how did the mess happen? My first guess was that maybe Rodrick did it, but he left the kitchen and he didn't go back to it. The pantry is right by the kitchen, so people can go into the kitchen two ways, either by the pantry or the other way. I stop thinking and decide to do something during this time. Like I said before, there's nothing in the room at all, but there will be when I use my imagination. I pretend that I'm a nurse and I'm taking care of 11 kittens, since they're my favorite animal. The cats are well behaved and I'm being careful to not make any loud noises. A little while later, dad calls me from downstairs for dinner. Finally! I go downstairs and after dinner, I continue baking the
Christmas treats. I manage to finish baking all the treats before my bedtime and I go to bed right away. I'm so exhausted!
Chapter 5: Its Christmas!
I wake up at 6:47 yelling, "Its Christmas!" Now that's another childish part of me. I want to head downstairs straight away to see if there's any presents, but then decide not to do that. Instead, I wait 'til everyone's awake. I wait even more, so they will not think that I already woke up. During the time of more waiting, dad calls me from downstairs again. Well, at least I can pretend that I just woke up. I went downstairs and into the living room. In there, I see a crying Rodrick and disapproving looks from both of my parents. "What's going on?" I ask. They don't speak. Instead, they point to a present that's ripped up and with spelling on it that says, "Rodrick is a ridiculous brother."
Chapter 6: How?
"What? I think the next thing you're going to say is that I'm the one who did this?" My dad nodded. "The only one who would be most likely to write that on the present is you. Rodrick usually makes a lot of trouble for you. You wrote that on the box of his present and you know how he likes to keep the box clean so he can store his toys back in it after playing with them." Then my mom said, "First the kitchen and now this? That's two days in a row, Gertrude. I don't want to, but you're going to go back into the tower and you'll be in it the whole day, until dinner." My jaw opens. "What, you can't do that. I have to go to a very important event for the club and I can't be in the tower for almost the whole day!" "I'm sorry Gertrude,"
said my dad. I turn around and go up the stairs. I overheard mom telling Rodrick that they'll make it up to him by taking him the Winter Festival that's happening tonight. When I heard that, my eyes were filled with tears and I rushed to my room, closed the door and went to my bed sobbing. "How did this happen? I didn't do anything!"
Meanwhile, Rodrick tells his parents that he wants a PB&J sandwich and he also wants to take a quick nap. As he goes upstairs, he's wearing a devious smile on his face.
Hi there. From this point, we will no longer be in Gertrude's point of view. We'll be focused on Rodrick's point of view from now on, until the near end of the book.
Chapter 7: What actually happened, (The Day before and the Night before.
In Rodrick's point of view the day before, he is actually the one who made the mess in the kitchen. After looking away from Gertrude, he was making a plot for getting back at Gertrude for not letting him have a cookie sooner. Yes, I know that its a really ridiculous reason for him to do that, but he really wanted a cookie. He can sometimes go a little too far for a just little thing. How he made the mess is that he put the batter in the blender and turn the blender on without putting on its cover. If you've did this thing before, (On accident), then you would know how the kitchen looks like. Then what happened at night is that, Rodrick went downstairs with a black marker. The
presents were already at the Christmas tree. He looked for the present with the tag 'Rodrick' on it. When he found the present that's for him, he ripped up some of the wrapping paper and he drew the spelling on the box's cover. He snickered and walked away. "Silly Gertrude. She does not know what's gonna happen."
Chapter 9: The Ghost of the Past.
Rodrick almost fell asleep on his bed, so he was dozing. He felt a light breeze in his room. He woke up a little. He bedroom window wasn't open and his air conditioner wasn't on. The breeze became stronger and it swirled around the room. Objects swirled around the room as the the wind got stronger and stronger. "Mom! What's happening!" But no one answered. The wind calmed down a bit and all the objects fell to the ground. Rodrick let a out big and glad exhale. "Hello there," said a bright and cheery voice. Rodrick turned to his right and there was a girl in white clothing and her skin was pale. "Aaah!" screamed Rodrick. "Sh, sh, please be quiet. Before you do, or say anything, I'm a ghost." Rodrick calmed down
a little. "Oh, that's okay, because my sister's a ghost. She's lucky. I think that would be one of the reasons I did the prank. But you don't really look a like a ghost that much. You look like a regular girl, except you're skin's a little white." said Rodrick. "Oh you see, this isn't my real form. I'll show you." The ghost let out a big inhale and she transformed into a really scary ghost with red eyes. "Aah! Turn back, turn back!" The ghost turned back. "Now, you're going to learn a very important lesson young man. First up, let's go to the past." Rodrick stood up and said, "Hold on. I'm going to the past? That's so cool! I can see dinosaurs and knights and.." "Actually, we're not going to any of the places. My job is to correct something bad that happened in the past and teach the person who did the
bad thing a lesson." said the ghost. "Now I've lost interest. Unless we're going to see a caveman, I'm not going anywhere. Besides, I've got a sandwich waiting for me and I do not want to let it go to waste." said Rodrick. "Well, first of all, while we're time traveling, no time will pass here and second of all, we have to go back in time.... unless you want something bad to happen in the future to you." said the ghost with a smile on her face. "Then what are we waiting for? Let's go back in time! To where exactly?" asked Rodrick. The ghost smiled and grabbed Rodrick's hand. He closed his eyes and he next thing he knew, everywhere was swirling and Rodrick's feet were lifted off the ground. Everything kept swirling and swirling, then Rodrick's feet were on the ground again.
Chapter 10: The Past.
Rodrick opened his eyes and they were not in his room anymore. Instead, they were at the hallway near the railing. "I don't understand. You said that we were going back to the past. This is my house." said Rodrick. "True, but one of the things that did happen at your house is in the past. Look down the railing." said the ghost. Rodrick did as she said and looked down the railing. He saw in the living room, he and his sister Gertrude were opening their presents near the Christmas tree. "I remember this moment. That was last year's Christmas. That day was so fun. I still remember that funny Christmas movie we watched." said Rodrick. "Yep, that's exactly what happened. But another thing happened during this time
too." said the ghost. Rodrick wanted to asked what else happened that he couldn't remember, but he didn't. If there was another thing that happened that he had to see, then he had to pay attention. Later, Rodrick saw the Past Rodrick's new Christmas toy broke and he couldn't play with it. He also saw that Past Gertrude shared her toy with him. "Is that the part you wanted me to see? That parts no big deal. My gift wasn't really that broken, I could still play with it after it got fixed." said Rodrick. "I know, but did you know that's what going to happen during the Christmas after that one?" asked the ghost. "Really, how did you know? I thought you were the Ghost the Past, not the Ghost of the Present. Wait, is there even going to be a Ghost of the Present?" asked Rodrick. "Yep,
and that's who I'm going to send you to next. The Ghost of the Present is all yours now." said the ghost. She grabbed Rodrick's hand and everything swirled again. Rodrick closed his eyes and his feet were lifted off the ground. Then, he landed on his bed.
Chapter 10: What's happening now.
Rodrick opened his eyes and he was back in his bedroom. He looked around and the girl ghost was nowhere to be found. "Oh, that was just a dream. Like a Ghost of the Present would come." But he spoke too soon. The strong breeze came back and objects were swirling around the room again. Rodrick knew that it wasn't necessary at all to scream, but he did it anyway. "Aaah!" The wind calmed down once again and all the objects fell to the ground. Rodrick looked around again. No ghost in sight. How's that possible? "Hello," said dark voice. Rodrick turned to his left and a figure was there. Rodrick said in a voice trying to hide his fear, "Hi?" The figure was quiet for a moment and then said, "I'm the Ghost of the Present and
now it's time for your lesson. Follow me, we don't have much time to waste." "That was weird." whispered Rodrick. "I heard that, now stay still." said the ghost. Rodrick stood really still, not making any sudden movements. Soon, his feet was lift off the ground and everything swirled. When he landed, he was still in his bedroom. "I thought you were taking me to the present, not my bedroom," said Rodrick. "You're right. Your bedroom is in the present now, right?" asked the ghost. Rodrick thought for a moment and said, "Yeah, you're right. But why are we in my room?" asked Rodrick. "Follow me. We will go to the kitchen," said the ghost. They left Rodrick's bedroom and went down the stairs to the kitchen. In the kitchen, Rodrick's parents were talking
