A long time ago, when I was very young, my family and I went fishing at the Paraguay River. It was a dreamlike place; the wide river looked like a sea, with many sandbanks and lush trees. That day, we stayed longer than we planned,
and it got dark...
I saw some kids and went over to them. I introduced myself, and they greeted me. They invited me to listen to a story; they were telling the legend of YasyYatere. I was so amazed by the tale that suddenly we heard a loud noise, and we all jumped in fright. We went to investigate where the sound was coming from; some had seen a silhouette behind the trees, so with our flashlights, we went to hunt down that mysterious being that had been watching us.
I was trembling with fear, but my curiosity about the source of the noise was even greater. The YasyYatere had already taken several children who didn’t listen to their parents and wandered away from home. Suddenly, my parents were on the shore gathering the fishing gear, so I couldn’t warn them that I was with those kids.
The kids and I, continued together to find out where those strange noises were coming from. Everything changed when we saw a cauldron over the fire, and we froze. Someone said, “This is where the mysterious creature cooks.” We hid behind a thick tree to observe. We saw someone stirring the cauldron, but they were invisible to our eyes.
