In 1890, Sam wanted to take a trip to Ellis Island.   She 

had some food and water but all her food and water 

was gone because she ate it all. So she had a plan. She 

jumped in the water and get some fish and water. 

When she looked behind her, her boat wasn't there and 

she needed to get out of the ocean. She had no way of 

getting to land. She had to swim two miles away so 

she could get to United States so she could get to her 

family and find a job so he can get money for them.

People traveled from different countries and 

came to the United States through Ellis Island. 

People used boats to get there. People loved to 

ride in the boat and on the ocean. 

   Sam was an immigrant who got lost in the ocean. 

She had no way of getting back to her country or 

to the United States. So she stopped the ship and 

she looked around. She saw land so she said, "I 

found land!" She started up the ship and went 

straight to the land. She stopped the ship at the 

shoreline. She hopped up and ran down the stairs 

and saw a house on the beach. She hurried to it 

and went in. There she saw a bedroom and a 

bathroom but she didn't know there were people 

living in the house.

Sam began planning her trip to Ellis Island. She 

couldn't wait to take her ship with the food her 

mother packed for the trip. But on her long trip, 

Sam ran out of food. The only thing left to do 

was to get some food from the sea. She caught 

a huge fish that was tasty. But each day 

seemed longer than the last. But eventually the 

ship ran out of gas. It didn't matter because 

she was able to get to a floating gas station to 

fill up.
