On one cold afternoon, a
new pig named Max
arrived at the pig pen.
No pigs welcomed Max,
so he settled by a tree
while the rest of the pigs
played together.
When Max built the courage to go to the muddy
pen where the other pigs were, they began to
make fun of his short tail and darker color.
"He's so different!" one pig shouted.
"His tail is straight as a dogs!" another cried.
All the pigs laughed and laughed at
Max, except for one, he noticed.
When Max arrived back
at his tree, he was very
sad. However, he noticed
he wasn't alone.
"Hi, I'm Lilly. Nice to
meet you," the pretty,
pink pig said.
"I'm Max."
Max and Lilly became the best of friends.
She apologized that all her friends were
mean, but she didn't want to be their
friend anymore. Only Max's.
They talked and played and laughed for
the next five days.
All of Lilly's friends noticed Max and got
very jealous.
"Why is she with him and not us?" they
yelled.
"I miss Lilly," others cried.
That day, they plotted a scheme to carry
him to a deep hole and throw him in it in
the night.
The following morning, Max woke up in a
deep hole of darkness. It was like every
light in the world had been turned off.
couldn't find a way out and was terrified,
so he yelled.
"Help!" he cried. "Lilly!?"
Lilly woke up and couldn't find Max anywhere.
She worried for his safety, but no one else did.
"Have you seen Max?" she asked the other
pigs.
"Nope," they answered.
"Come play with us, then, Lilly!" they later
suggested.
