MEET THE CHARACTERS

Okay, a little more to the left... and smile! Perfect!
In Maya's room, she is editing her photo while sitting in front of the mirror. She adjust her photo so it will make it perfect.

Maya, this photo is so cool! You always look perfect!

Teach me how to do this to. I want to have a lot of followers like you!

(Monologue) Will they still like me if they know i'm not perfect?
At school, Maya walks with Nina and Rizky, talking about Maya's latest photo on Instagram.

One night, Maya hurriedly upload a selfie without her makeup on. She wants to show her true side, but she didn't realize her decision will change everything.

Maya, did you upload that photo on purpose? It's not like you at all.
I.. I didn't mean to. I was just in a hurry last night.
Wow, Maya. you're really brave to upload that photo! Are you trying to be "normal" now?
Next day, everyone is talking about the photo that Maya uploaded last night...

However, not everyone mocks Maya. Dira, Maya's classmate who always support her, gives a positive comment.
I think you look natural in that photo. It's okay to be yourself.

Maya feels a bit relieved, but still feels a pressure from her other friends.

Mom, I’m tired. I always feel like I have to look perfect on social media. It feels like I have to pretend to be someone else.
Maya, you don’t need to feel that way. What matters is who you are inside, not how others see you outside. Everyone has flaws, and that’s what makes us human.
But everyone at school is talking about me. I feel like I can’t do anything right.
Try not to think too much about what others say. Focus on what makes you happy.

Hey , Maya! How are you? I saw that photo caused quite a stir, huh?
I feel really bad. Everyone is talking about it, and I feel like I’ve disappointed them.
You haven’t disappointed anyone. In fact, you were brave to show your true self. That’s worth more than a thousand likes.

But I’m afraid of losing my friends. They might not want to be friends with someone who isn’t perfect.
True friends will accept you as you are. If they can’t, maybe they aren’t the right friends for you.

Maya decides to write in her journal about her feelings. She writes down everything she feels and her hopes for the future.

Sarah, can we talk for a minute?
Oh, what’s up? Are you here to apologize for that photo?
No, I don’t want to apologize. I just want you to know that I’m not trying to disappoint anyone. I just want to be myself.
But that makes you look weak. Everyone expects you to always be perfect.
