Mia, Jack, and Emma were students in Ms. Pine's kindergarten class. One day, they were having trouble paying attention. It was a warm, sunny spring morning and they wriggled in their seats like worms. The children did not think it was fair to be indoors on such a lovely day. Ms. Pine did not think it was fair, either.
"Put your sweaters on and line up at the door," Ms. Pine instructed the students. "Today we are going to take our learning outdoors."
The children did as they were told. They were eager to go outside!

Ms. Pine lead the students through their town toward the Forest of Enchantment. Mia and Emma skipped ahead, stopping to smell a patch of flowers.
"Let's be sure we're bringing our imaginations and our observation skills," Ms. Pine told the children. "The forest and the animals that live in the forest can teach us things that our classroom cannot."

As Ms. Pine and the students entered the Forest of Enchantment, they were surrounded by forest creatures and plants.
"Let's use our Observation Skills to think about where we are," Ms. Pine said. "What can we see? What can we hear? What can we smell?"
"I see a squirrel eating an acorn!" Mia exclaimed.
"I hear an owl hooting," Jack said.
"I smell fresh flowers!" said Emma.
"Very good!" Ms. Pine smiled. "What you are describing are called your senses. Our senses help us better understand the world around us."

As Ms. Pine and her students got deeper into the forest, they came upon a clearing and heard sounds from many different forest creatures. They could hear the chirping of birds, the buzzing of insects, and leaves whispering in the breeze.
"Close your eyes and listen," Ms. Pine said. "The sounds you hear are all part of nature's orchestra."
"It makes me feel happy," Mia whispered.
"Nature can help us feel calm and happy," Ms. Pine replied. "If you are ever worried or sad, spending time outside can help you feel better."

Ms. Pine and her students came across a roaring river separating two sides of the forest.
"Oh no!" Emma cried. "There's no way to cross this river. Our forest day is ruined!"
"We must not give up so quickly," Ms. Pine said. "Let's use our brainstorming skills to see if we can find a solution."
The children were quiet for a moment, looking around for anything to help. Then, Jack pointed to a pile of large logs from a tree that had been cut down.
"What if we used the logs to make a bridge across the river?" he said.
"Great idea, Jack!" Ms. Pine exclaimed. "Let's all work together to try Jack's plan."

The students and Ms. Pine worked together to place the logs into a sturdy bridge to cross the river. Once they were all across, Ms. Pine said:
"Great work, I am so proud of you! We faced a problem; Jack brainstormed a solution; then you worked together to test his hypothesis and you found a way across the river. See what happens when we all work together as a team?"

As the group continued on their journey, the sky began to grow dark and dark clouds started forming. A clap of thunder made Emma squeal and Mia took her hand.
"It looks like it's going to rain," Ms. Pine said. "I brought an umbrella we can use to shelter us. It's important to always be prepared for changes in the weather!"
