A glance to the past

The beginning of the public school system in the US ocurred during the 19th century. The main purpose of public education was to make schooling available to the masses. In addition, preparing people for the productive work and promoting the common good were also aimed. In this social movement, two innovators were involved: Horance Mann and William H McGuffey, who desired to make a meaningful change for their country. However, some challenges had to be faced such as unifying a diverse population and providing high-quiality education at low cost. In conclusion, the 19th century was a turning point in education that established the beginning of public school throughout the USA.
