7th-grade students were working in the library maker space on a class assignment.

One of the students started to become frustrated, so the librarian decided to check on them

The librarian, to help the student cool down, asked them to help them with a non academic library task to help distract them for a moment.

After a few minutes, the librarian checked in with the student. "I saw you getting frustrated with the assignment. What was frustrating you?"

The student expressed that they saw their peers completing the task really easily and so they became frustrated and insecure that they couldn't complete the activity like their peers.

The student also expressed that because they saw their peers mastering the task faster and with ease, they felt like giving up

The librarian asked the student questions such as if they found the activity interesting and if it was something they were curious about.

The student said they found the activity to be really interesting but they were more focused on achieving a good grade and not being embarrassed in front of of their peers.
