1. Skimming Technique
Skimming is a strategic, selective reading method in which you focus on the main ideas of a text. Instead of closely reading every word, focus on the introduction, chapter summaries, first and last sentences of paragraphs, bold words, and text features.

By Meymis Sorto
Main benefits of Skimming
1. Review large amounts of material efficiently.
2. There is no need to read the entire text, so the time factor is not an issue.
3. There is little or no room for gathering repetitive or useless information.
4. The central theme and/or topic of the text is quickly identified, as well as the general ideas.

Example: When we enter a restaurant and the waiter gives us the menu, we may not know exactly what we want to eat. We look through the menu to see what is on the menu and what we might want. This is Skimming.
Example #1
Look at the news on a website or in a newspaper.
When browsing a website or newspaper, you take a quick glance at the headlines or bullet points to get a general idea of the most important news of the day.
Example #2

2. Scanning Technique
Scanning is reading a text quickly in order to find specific information, figures or names. Scanning is a reading technique that allows readers to quickly locate specific information in a text.

1. The search for ideas is a process that is generated easily and quickly.
2. Retrieving information quickly and accurately.
3. Speed reading makes it easier to make good use of time, especially if you find yourself with limited time.
Main benefits of scanning

I need to know the flight schedule because I need the time of my flight.

Example #1
I need to know the agenda of activities that will take place at the conference so that I can wear appropriate clothing and put it on my agenda so that I don't forget it.

Example #2
3. Getting the GIST
Get the Gist is an acronym for Generating Interactions between Schemata and Texts. It is summarising strategy. Effective summarising leads to an increase in student learning. Summarising requires students to focus on the main ideas of a text and to decide what is important without omitting key ideas.

Main benefits of the GIST technique
1. To improve the comprehension of the main message of a text.
2. To improve the ability to extract essential information.
3. To facilitate retention and recall of key ideas.
4. To further the development of information metacognition.

Nicholas Winton saved 669 Jewish children in 1938 in Czechoslovakia because Adolf Hitler wanted to exterminate them and placed them in foster homes in England.
Example #1
Alfred Nobel invented dynamite in 1867 in Sweden, to help construction and mining, through attempts at controlled explosions with nitroglycerin and mercury.
Example #2
4. Predicting
It consists of making assumptions or predictions about what will happen in the text, based on titles, subtitles, images, first sentences, or any other available clues.

By Nathaly Rodríguez
The main benefits of Predicting are:
-Improves engagement.
-Improves comprehension.
-Boots critical thinking.
-Strengthens memory.

Example:

I predict that this book is about the couple's lifelong romance, because the two look so much in love.

Example:
I predict that the book is about a forest with magical creatures, because the title says THE MAGICAL FOREST.
5. Meaning from Context.
Refers to the ability to deduce the meaning of unknown words depending on the context.
Context clues are hints to information within a text that help readers deduce the meaning of unknown words or phrases.

The main benefits of Meaning from Context are:
-Improvement of reading comprehension.
-Development of critical thinking.
-Memory and retention.
-Promotion of concentration.
-Vocabulary acquisition.

Example:
Vertebrate animals, such as iguanas, deer and rabbits, lived in the forest.

She was exhausted after running in the marathon, she couldn't even walk as if she had been running for a week.
The phrase "as if she had been running for a week" helps clarify just how exhausted she was by comparing it to an extreme situation.
Example:

6. Silent Reading
