Chapter 1
The Shadow of Rome – Zeugma (300 BC)
HME SECONDARY SCHOOL

A long time ago, the city of Zeugma stood on the banks of the Euphrates River. It was one of the bustling centers of trade and culture. Marcus, a young scribe, was tasked with writing important documents for the Roman governor.
One night, a mosaic master revealed a secret to him:
“There is a hidden chamber beneath the city. Inside lies an ancient scroll. Whoever finds it can change the future.”
The Scroll of the Future

Marcus decided to investigate this secret. Under the cover of darkness, he quietly made his way towards the Euphrates River.
Yet, Marcus was not the only one watching the city closely. Persian spies moved silently through the shadows, careful not to reveal their own pursuit of the scroll.
Betrayal and the Mosaic Code
Marcus, Leon, and Darian quickly surfaced and plunged into Zeugma's narrow streets. They went to Leon’s workshop to decode the scroll. The mosaics revealed the words: "The key that appears at sunrise."
When Leon shone a lantern on the largest mosaic, the stones glowed faintly, revealing a golden key within.
“This is the key to the governor’s secret library!”
At that very moment, hooded Roman soldiers burst through the door. Marcus's eyes widened when he saw their leader—it was Cassius, the Roman governor’s trusted aide!
“Give me the scroll, Marcus. Some secrets must remain hidden.”
It was revealed that Cassius had been manipulating both Rome and Persia. They had to escape.
Showdown at the Governor's Palace
With Leon’s help, they traversed underground tunnels to reach the Roman governor's palace. Using the golden key, they opened the secret door and found themselves in a vast library.
But the governor and Cassius were already waiting inside.
“So, you brought the scroll,” said the governor.
Darian gripped his dagger tightly. Cassius smiled slyly.
“Tonight, everything will be decided.”
