It was finally Girl Scout Cookie season, and in
Washington, the hopes were high. Everyone always
rushed to get them. However, when it comes to an
end, it is very hard to find buyers, as everyone is
already stocked up for the rest of the year. Alex
Orozco’s troop was behind the goal and tonight is
the last night to sell.
Alex has been a troop leader for five years. She is
very patient and wants the best for all of the girls in
her troop. Tonight, she is helping Maddy, a Girl
Scout, sell the final ten boxes of cookies needed to
send the troop to California Adventure.

Maddy is 13 years old and gets frustrated
easily. She has brown hair and many, many
freckles on her chubby face. Since it is getting
so late out, she is tired and wants to sleep. But
she still needed to make her goal to impress
her troop.
The day was starting to come to an end, so this
was just getting up the hill of anger that Maddy
had in store for the night.
“I’m so tired” whined Maddy.
“But Maddy!”, exclaimed Alex,”we only need to
sell ten more until we reach our goal! You don’t
want to disappoint anyone, do you?”

“Well… no. But I can’t take this anymore! Can’t
you just buy the boxes yourself?”
“Maddy! You know I can’t do that… I’ve already
bought fifteen myself, I don’t just have an extra
forty dollars lying around.”
Maddy sighed, knowing that Alex was right.
They kept walking until they reached the next
neighborhood. They both saw the street lights
turning on, meaning the night sky has awoken.
“I really hope someone will buy these cookies. I
know how irritated Maddy gets when things
don’t go her way…” Alex thought to herself.

They stopped at the first house on the block.
Maddy knocked on the door while Alex stood
behind her.
An older man answered the door.
“Hi! Would you like to buy some-”
“Do you know what time it is!” screamed the
man. “It’s half past 7, I should be in bed by
now. You should be in bed now!” His anger
turned from Maddy to Alex. “How could you let
this little girl be out so late? Do you know how
irresponsible you are? I already have all the
Girl Scout cookies I need, but even if I needed
more, I would not buy from you. I would never
support your troop!” and he slammed the door.
