Welcome to Tropical Farm! I'm Lou and I'll be
showing you my farm today! A quick summary for
where we are: we are near the capital of Coconut
Island, Tropicana and that is why Tropical Farm is
located here. We have to supply food to all over the
area and export food to America and Australia.

The size of the farm is about 250 acres of land
because we are a commercial sustainable farm. We
supply to the almost all regions of Coconut Island.

The agriculture we practice is sustainable
commercial farming. The farm is big enough to
feed local regions. Machinery is used because
the farm is more than a couple of acres and we
have the demand from people of our land and
other countries. The machinery that we used
are tractors, plows, and irrigation sprinklers.
We also have to export our foods.

The crops our farm grows are mostly fruits and
vegetables. We do not have many animals
other than chickens for laying eggs. Coconut
Island is very health conscious, so there is high
demand for fruits and veggies.

Our farm is subsidized by the government
because it is more expensive to farm
organically, and buy organically, so they make
up for loss.

We transport our crops around Coconut Island
by truck or train because this is a small island,
and everything is pretty close. When we export
to Australia and the US we use an airplane so
the food is as fresh as can be.

Our target customers here at Tropical Farm are
people seeking a healthy lifestyle filled with
healthy foods. Organic farming has a lot of
rules and regulations, so after all is done we
hope the customers are satisfied.

Some problems with the farm at first were that
there was so much sunshine and not enough
rain! The crops needed this so we were not
thriving as a business, but then we got an
irrigation system. Another problem is always
making sure what we do is within the
regulations, but we hired a woman whose main
job is to make sure everything is properly
done.

Our farm regarding Von Thunen's Model is in
the first ring. We are closest to the city, right
outside the capital. This is because of our
products. Fruits and vegetables are
perishables, so we need to be close to the
source.

About half of our economy is based off
agriculture. There is the right soil for growing
here, and it is apart of the culture to farm. As
Coconut Island developed more and more it went
from subsistence to commercial. Commercial
farming is successful here for exporting to other
countries as well.
