An array of folk arrived on some oak,
from a land that was far far away.
With hope in their heart, for a brand new start,
they were very delighted to stay.

They were sick of being bested, apart from being detested,
and wanted the Church of England to follow their ways.
But they sat back and rested, as they waited for their flag to finally raise.

I shall call you a,
"Puritan."

Now what were these ways? Well, I figured you may ask.
But first, let us identify these strangers, for they were not masked.
They were very much Christian, and very well known.
They were called the Puritans, named by the throne.

What a
mean king.

Now if you did not know, the Puritans worshiped God,
which back in those days, wasn't quite odd.
So why did they leave with their view of England in gnarls,
well we can all blame that on King Henry VIII Charles.

I can't have a boy.

Then I shall find a new queen!

You see, King Henry wanted a male heir,
but sadly his wife left him in despair.
She was unable of procreation,
which lead to his affairs, and a request for separation.

Divorce me from my wife.

I refuse!Christian Church

King Henry sought out a Pope for his divorce,
expecting an answer like, “Oh sure, of course!”
But to the King’s surprise the Pope rejected,
which left him needing to assume control, rather than being dejected.

This church shall be no more!
I want my own church!Christian Church

So the King broke off with the Christian Church,
which was only the beginning of his reputation being smirched.
He wanted full control, authority, and command,
leading to the Church of England being planned.

That's better!

The plans for the Church of England were really quite easy.
King Henry was to be in charge, no matter how many people he made queasy.
Now the Anglican Church reformed Catholics beliefs and practices to some extent,
but really this was all to make King Henry more content.

This isn't right...

Leading back to the Puritans, they were not elated.
They felt that the Church had gone down hill, and deflated.
They wanted the Church to follow the biblical commands.
It had to be purified, that was the only way that they would shake hands.
