It was a beautiful Spring day and Becky decided to 

go for a nature walk in the forest. 

While she was walking Becky spotted a bright, 

green leaf hanging from a tree branch. Becky got 

closer to the leaf so she could get a better look. 

While Becky was inspecting the leaf she 

noticed something interesting. 

There was a tiny little egg placed on the leaf. 

"What this could possibly be?" wondered Becky. 

Becky thought back to the beginning of the school 

year when her class learned about butterflies. 

"This must be a butterfly egg!" thought Becky. 

While observing the egg, Becky remembered that 

the egg will eventually turn into a butterfly.  

Becky went back to the leaf a few days later to 

check on the butterfly egg. However, when she got 

to the leaf the egg was gone!

Becky began to worry, but then she thought back 

to her butterfly lesson and remembered that when 

butterfly eggs hatch they become caterpillars.  

Then Becky looked up and saw a little green 

caterpillar sitting on the branch.
