The theory that all matter is made up of tiny indivisible particles (atoms).
Atoms are small and cant be seen with the naked eye except for under a telescope but even using that some
you still cant see cause scientist haven't found them yet or found out how to find them.

He was a greek philosopher in the year 400 B.C. He used the word atoms to describe the
smallest piece of matter.
-Just a "thought experiment".
-Most of the stories about Democritus are worthless later inventions.
-The Greek natural philosopher Democritus (ca. 494-ca. 404 B.C.) promulgated the atomic
theory, which asserted that the universe is composed of two elements: the atoms and the
void in which they exist and move.

-350 B.C.
-Did not buy into the atom theory.
-Thought there were only four elements:
air, fire, earth, and water.
-no one listens to Democritus.
-Aristotle did not believe in the atomic theory and he taught so otherwise.
-He believed all substances were made of small amounts of these four elements of matter.
- He also liked to walk around and teach so he had followers (students).
-Aristotle's view was finally proven incorrect and his teachings are not present in the
modern view of the atom which democritus was the first to call.

-Considered to be the father of modern
chemistry.
-He is credited with performing the
first experiment that established the
principle of the law of conservation of
mass.
LCM
-Mass is neither created nor destroyed
during ordinary chemical reactions or
physical changes.

proposed the first atomic theory in 1803.
1> all elements are composed of indivisible particles.
2> atoms of the same element are the same.
3> atoms of different elements are different.
4> compounds are formed by joining atoms of two or more elements.

- The english scientist who discovered
electrons in 1897.
- He did the cathode ray tube
experiment.
-He created the plum-pudding model.
- he says that electrons float in a "sea
of positive charge" and mass is evenly
dispersed.
