Noah was a boy who loved to watch soccer games. He
watched soccer with his dad almost every weekend. I wish
I could be a professional soccer player one day! Noah
would think to himself every time he watched soccer.
When vacations arrived, Noah practiced with his father in the
backyard. The moment his dad got home from work, Noah
would say: “Come on dad! Let’s play outside!”
He became better at dribbling and passing, and really enjoyed
practicing the sport. Just when summer was about to end,
Noah decided to join the school’s soccer team.
Not too long after, he noticed he was the only new one in the
team. None of his teammates passed him the ball. “Please,” Noah
told his teammates, “pass me the ball, I’ll try to do my best.”
During a practice game, the player behind Noah kicked the ball
towards him, but he did not react quickly enough so he lost control of
the ball and failed to score a goal. Look at me… Noah would think to
himself. All this practice and still failing to score a goal. If only I could
make my team happy…
A month later, Noah’s team had the final game against another
school. The bleachers were full of parents that passionately
cheered for their them. Noah could not help but think that he
might let his team down again.
When there were two minutes left, Noah was standing next to the goal,
and his teammate kicked the ball towards him; it was the only choice
he had. “Move Noah, kick it now!” he heard in the background. Without
thinking twice, he kicked the ball opposite from where the goalie was
standing, scoring a goal just before the time was up.
