Once upon a time in a land far, far away called 

Bellingham there was three girls. One was named 

Ms. Wiens and she was feeling sad. She wanted to 

get a pet. But, what kind?

We can't have a dog or a cat so I thought and thought 

about what type of pet that I could have in my apartment. 

Then, it hit me! What about a fish? So the three girls 

went to the pet store and bought a goldfish. Can you say 

goldfish? His name is Marvin. He is a small goldfish.

Marvin is gold and bright in his fish bowl. He lives in a fish 

bowl in my apartment. He is very cute! What do you think?

Let me tell you a little about my new pet named Marvin so 

you can get to know him. Do you remember what kind of 

fish Marvin is? Oh yes. He's a goldfish.

Goldfish have a mouth. They use their mouth to eat. 

Goldfish usually eat fish food from small containers. 

Goldfish have eyes. They use their eyes to see around 

them. Eyes help goldfish see what might be in their home.

Goldfish have gills. Do you know what they use gills 

for? Gills help fish breathe. Goldfish breathe 

underwater using their gills.

You have to look very carefully! They are the little lines 

near the eyes of the fish that move in and out when the 

fish breathes. Do you see them?

Goldfish have fins! Goldfish have three sets of fins. What 

do you think fins do? Fins help goldfish swim in the water.

Goldfish have scales! Can you say scales? Scales 

cover the entire fish. Scales protect the fish 

and keep it from getting sick.

Goldfish have a tail! What do you think a tail 

does? A tail helps the fish swim around in his 

bowl or tank. The tail helps the fish move.
