Story
Map

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Story Map clarified and
mentioned the story structures such as, events,
characters, problem, solution and the settings in the
story. It also summarizes the main idea of the story.
According to Broome (2009), story mapping is used
for teaching students to work with story structure for
better comprehension. Moreover, this technique uses
visual representations to help students organize
important elements of the story. Furthermore,
students will learn to summarize the main ideas,
characters, settings and the plot for better
understanding.

Story Book

The Very Hungry Caterpillar story book is the most
important element in the story bag. When a teacher
starts reading the story, she can begin by asking the
students what they can see in the front of the book
and she can tell them to read the story’s title and tell
them the author’s name. During reading the story,
the teacher can ask the students what they can see
and involve them by asking them different kind of
questions. Moreover, monitoring students’
comprehension while reading is very essential to
enhance their understanding and make them engaged
all the time.

Using puppets and props is another way of
learning. It is very effective because it keeps the
attention span of the children and enhances their
understanding (Bellingham, 2010). Inside the story
bag, there is a big file that contains all the props and
puppet that are very useful to use it while reading the
story. The main puppet is the Caterpillar, it is
handmade. The teacher can use the puppet and the
sticky props as a way of illustrating the meaning.

the World "Coloring activity"

The first activity is coloring activity. Students should
choose only two pictures of butterflies and then follow
the numbers and start coloring it. Inside the file,
there is the activity paper, fibre coloring pens and the
activity card. The activity card illustrates the steps
and the targeted learning styles in this activity which
are both Visual and Kinesthetic. This activity will be
fun and informative activity, students will enjoy
drawing and at the same time they will learn more
about the names of the colors that were mentioned
earlier while reading the story.

Creation Activity

The second activity is The Word Creation Activity.
Students will see the picture under each column and they will
organize the cubes that are labeled with different letters to
create the correct spelling for each picture. Inside the big
file, there is the game and the activity card. The activity card
illustrates the steps and the targeted learning styles in this
activity which are both Visual and Kinesthetic. Students will
enjoy this activity a lot because they love to use their hands
“Hands-on activities” and this type of activity will monitor their
understanding about the new vocabulary words that were
mentioned in the story.

The third activity is a listening activity. The teacher
should give each group one board and the props and
then she will play the recorder inside the CD.
Students will listen to the word and then they will
choose the correct prop and put it on the board.
Students must finish putting the props in a correct
order. Inside the file, there is the white board, the
props,CD and the activity card. The activity card
illustrates the steps and the targeted learning styles
in this activity which are Visual, Auditory and
Kinesthetic. This type of activity is important because
it teaches children how to pronounce words correctly
while they hear the recorded word and it will enhance
and deepen their understanding about the new
targeted vocabulary.

The fourth activity is a game “Throw and answer”. The
teacher will put the activity game on the floor and give each
student one block toy. She will ask them to stand in a line and
each student should throw his little toy on the activity game and
answer the question. Inside the file, there are the activity game
and the blocks toys. The activity card illustrates the steps and
the targeted learning styles in this activity which are Visual and
Kinesthetic. This activity will motivate the students because it
is a game! And children love playing games. This activity will
check the students’ general understanding of the story which
will give the teacher the opportunity to evaluate her students’
understanding.
