Kelsey always loved to go to the beach and play in the sand.
She had been to the beach so many times that she was very excited
when she heard the news that she would be going on a field trip to
the beach with her class.
When Kelsey and her class arrived at the beach, they
realized something was not right. There was litter
everywhere! The sand and the ocean was covered with it.
They would not be able to swim or build sandcastles as
they had hoped.
Kelsey was so upset. Her favorite place in the world looked
terrible. She could not understand why anyone would want to
ruin such a beautiful place. Just as Kelsey started to cry, she
heard a noise behind her.
SPLASH!
Kelsey could not believe her eyes. It was a dolphin, right
next to her! Before Kelsey could tell her friends, something
even more unbelievable happened.
Hi, my name is Daphne the dolphin. My friends and I need your help! Our home is
so dirty and many of the animals are getting
sick.
Kelsey was not sure if she was dreaming, but she knew she needed to
help because the beach was her favorite place.
Of course I will, Daphne.My name is Kelsey. Please tell
me what I can do to help.
The first thing you can do is to ask your friendsand family to pick up all of the litter on the
sand and in the ocean. It's important to always
throw away your trash in the garbage and recycle.
I will tell them, Daphne. Anythingelse?
Yes, there is one other thing.I would like you to meet my friends
and let them tell you about some of the
ways that the ocean can help people
and animals. I'll take you where they are.
