In Neolithic Times, the Neolithic
settlements were located near the
Mediterranean Sea because the
land was fertile.

During the Paleolithic Age,
people obtained food by hunting
animals and gathering plants.

Hi, I'm Paleolithic Bill!

And I'm Paleolithic Mary!
Welcome to our home!

There were some problems
with getting the food, though.
They ran out of food quite quickly.
So they were were always on the move.

Oh no! Our food is scarce again!
Winter is coming!

We have to move!

So they left. With no food and no
light, the animals of the dark start
to creep into the night.

In the Neolithic times, people learned
many different things.

We learned that we could grow our own
food by collecting and planting the seeds
of plants!

We take the seeds out of this
watermelon, for example, and
plant them.

They even came up with a
smart idea to domesticate
animals!

Domesticating animals was such a great idea!

We learned how to raise animals
for food such as milk and meat.
We also used the animals to
carry heavy loads and plow.

They also learned about agriculture
and what it is.

This helped us create a stable food supply

Agriculture is the growing of crops and the domestication of animals.

Paleolithic people used different kinds of
use for shelters. These shelters were also
temporary.

We built shelters out of caves or rough,tent-like structures.
These houses were temporary because we moved around a
lot in search for food. We also were hunter-gatherers, so we
were nomads.

Houses were built differently in the
Neolithic Age.

Our houses were built by
brick packed together.

Neolithic people had a special way to
store and cook food.

Our special way was pits dug into the floor lined with clay.

The development of permanent shelters
was important.

The development of permanent shelters
was important because it had protection
of harsh weather and wild animals, made
people able to cook in new and different
ways, and enabled people to settle together
in larger communities.

Paleolithic communities were small
because they moved from place to place.

Community living helped Neolithic people
become more organized.

It helped us divide up the work of producing food
and other things we needed.

Neolithic people had many advantages for
working together in communities.

We could defend ourselves more easily
against our enemies.

The establishment of communities was
important.

It was important because it made our
lives more comfortable and safer.
