There once was a soldier fighting the swedes. He had
been away from his home in Poland for a long time.
When he was heading home he came across two old
men. The first one said,"Hello there fine soldier boy!
Now where have you been soldiering?" The soldier
said," I've been in Sweden fighting the swedes. Now I
am heading home."

"Ah, I wish we had a nice home to go to," said the first
old man. "Some people have all the luck in the world.
My name is Prot and this is Krot." " Yes, yes my name is
Krot and he's Prot. At least we think so, but we're not
sure. Anyway, what does it matter? The problem is that
we have no home and no money between us." "Well,
I've only two pennies left," said the soldier, drawing the
coins from his pocket. "You can have them if you want
them." He gave them the money, and their eyes
twinkled as they exchanged looks.

So the soldier was on his way walking along the river. When
he had walked for a few hours he saw a roughly made raft
carrying Prot and Krot. The soldier said "Where did you get
that raft?" They said "Oh, bits and pieces. Do you have any
food with you?" The soldier replied "Why yes I have a little
bit of bread with me." Prot said "Well then hop on and we'll
share it." Krot said "If you could have anything at all, then
what would it be?" Prot said "A mansion made of gold?"
"Well maybe some money in my pocket." said the soldier.
"You know some wishes might come true," said Prot. "Yes
like cake in the sky or soda in the river, no doubt!" said the
soldier. No sooner had he spoken than a cake appeared in
the sky and some root beer bobbed in the river.

They then munched on the cake and drank the soda.
Then they said "This is where we leave you, my friend."
So he was on his way. He came upon an inn where he
would spend the night. But he felt a heavy substance in
his pocket. When he looked inside, he saw a bunch of
gold pieces. He took some out to buy a dinner but then
some new ones just appeared where the other ones
were. So he had a wonderful dinner of roast beef and
soup. What he did not know was that a robber was
sitting by him. The robber sprang out and said "Give me
your gold. I'll have it or your life." The soldier replied "I
have put it in my knapsack." With that the robber
jumped inside. The soldier ran outside and dumped him
in a hole!
