"Boo!" Suzie's brother screeched as he jumped from behind her
bedroom door. "I scared you!"
"Did not," declared Suzie. "Did, too," replied her brother.
"I am not arguing with you now, Tony," said Suzie. "I have a lot on my
mind. I need to come up with that perfect costume for Halloween and
it is only 2 weeks away."

"Aw, that's," said Tony. " I am going to be a Superhero. Why don't
you be one, too."
"No way," said Suzie. "Superhero stuff is for boys." "Is not," said
Tony. "Is, too," said Suzie. "Is..."
"Stop!" screamed Suzie. "I am not going through that again. Now go
be Batman, or Spiderman, or Hulk or whoever else you are this week
and leave me alone." "Fine," replied Tony as he skulked away.

"Now," thought Suzie, "it is time for me to get serious about
my Halloween costume. I don't want to be just any old
monster, or princess, or cartoon character OR Superhero. I
want to be Suzie, the girl with the Halloween costume that
when everyone looks at it will say, "Hey that's Suzie in her
costume. She really know who she is."

As Suzie marked off the days on her calendar, she knew she
needed to come up with something soon. Maybe one of those
Halloween catalogues would help. Suzie dug through her
mom's magazine basket searching for that special catalogue.
at last, Suzie found it.

"Ah ha," she cried. "I am sure to find the answer to my problem
on these pages." Suzie Flipped through each page of the magazine,
"A witch, no way. A princess, not again. Devil? Angel? Fairy?"
Nothing seemed to be what she wanted to be.

The next morning at breakfast, Suzie's mom asked if she made a decision about
her costume. "You know, Suzie," she said, "Halloween is almost here. You need to
decide what you want to be or soon there will be nothing left in the stores. Then
what will we do?"
Suzie did not answer her mom. She couldn't. She didn't know what she wanted to
be.

At lunch in school that day, there was much talk about who was
going to be what for Halloween. The day was rapidly approaching
and the students were beginning to feel the excitement of
dressing up, Halloween parades and trick or treating. Suzie
listening but did not share in the excitement.

"So, Suzie," her friend Annie asked, "what have you decided to be for
Halloween? You know I have decided to be Glinda, the Good Witch from The
Wizard of OZ. I am so excited! I wish I could in a bubble in the parade just
like Glinda."
Suzie smiled and nodded her head. That was okay for her friend Annie, but it
was not what she wanted to be. Annie suggested she go as Dorothy or even the
Wicked Witch of the West so they looked like they were both from the Wizard
of Oz. Suzie just shook her head. She was not interested.
