One sunny afternoon, Dippy the 

dinosaur was relaxing in his backyard.

Suddenly he heard a 

‘toooot, toooot’ sound 

coming from next door. 

He went to investigate, and found 

his friend Millie the monkey 

playing the flute she had chosen 

for the school band.

Dippy also wanted to join the band, so he 

tried to play Millie's flute…

But his toes 

were too big...

"Don't worry Dippy", comforted Millie. 

"There will be another instrument that will 

be a better fit for you".

Dippy then went down the street and heard a 

loud ‘bwaaarp, bwaaarp’ sound coming from 

Barnaby the bear’s house. 

He saw that Barnaby 

had a shiny new tuba 

for the school band! 

Barnaby let Dippy 

have a go of his 

tuba…

But Dippy's mouth 

was too wide to 

make a sound...

“That’s ok Dippy”, Barnaby 

said.

“You have to squeeze your 

lips together really tight to 

play the tuba, so maybe 

another instrument would be 

a better fit for you”, he 

explained.

As Dippy left Barnaby’s house, he was 

determined to find an instrument he could play.

Dippy then came across Tilly and Tommy the 

turtle twins, who were making a ‘boom boom 

boom’ sound as they bounced across their new 

drums.

“It’s Dippy!” chorused the turtle twins. “Would 

you like to have a go at playing our drums?”. 

Dippy leant down to tap the drums with his head…

But his neck was too long...

                                                      //     

But his neck was too long to reach...

“Careful, you don’t want to hurt your neck”, 

warned Tilly the turtle. “Maybe a bigger 

instrument would be a better fit for you”.
