It was a sunny day on the farm when Zach
woke up to "Cock-a-doodle-do!" Rocky the
rooster was at it again, waking up Zach's
sister, his brother and their old dog, Blue.

Cows were everywhere, no matter where
you looked. It was a dairy farm after all, so
Zach's schedule was always booked.
Feed the cows, milk the cows and clean up
their mess. "Zach do this" and "Zach do
that." Talk about stress.

The next morning after Rocky's timely call,
Zach started his chores while throwing old
Blue a ball.

When he reached the fence and
stretched out a yawn, he noticed
something strange. "The cows," he
said, "they're gone."
"Dad, come quick!" he
yelled, "You have to come
see!
I've checked the field, I've
checked the barn. Where
on earth could they be?"

Zach had looked everywhere and
his family helped too.
The cows simply vanished. Where
they went, nobody knew.
For breakfast the next day,
in his PJs soft as silk, Zach
went down to the kitchen to
have some cereal and milk.

He opened the fridge and what he saw, he
couldn't believe.
The milk was gone too. "Our house has a
thief!"

"Fine," he said, as he stomped
and muttered. "I'll have toast
for breakfast. Can you pass the
butter?"

"I'm sorry sweetie," Zach's mother
replied.
"We don't have any butter either,"
as she let out a sigh.
"You've got to be kidding me,"
Zach was so confused.
"The cows, the milk, the butter,
what more could we lose?"

"That's it, I've decided! I'll have an omelet please.
With peppers, two eggs, oh, and don't forget the
cheese."
One look at her face and Zach knew what she'd say.
"The cheese is gone too. You'll be having fruit
today."
As if losing the cows wasn't bad enough, no dairy at
all? This mystery is tough.
