In Oct. 28 1886, a French sculptor named
Fredric Auguste Bartholdi designed a large
sculpture called,The Statue of Liberty also
known as Liberty Enlightening the World who
stands in New York Harbor in New York
City.It was a gift from France to the United
States of America to resemble freedom and
to greet immigrants from other countries.
The Statue of Liberty pictures a Roman
goddess who holds a tablet that shows the
date of the American Declaration of
Independence in her left hand and holds a
torch in her right hand.

Some parts of the statue have meanings
for example, the crown represents the seven
seas and seven continents in the world, the
windows of the crown represent rays of
light shining over the seven seas and
continents, the sandals represent peace to the
world and to be a free person, and the broken
chains that Lady Liberty bears is a symbol
of being free from slavery.

The Statue of Liberty is about 305 ft. from
base to torch. The statue was finally
completed in the year 1885 and was dedicated
in 1886.
Since the statue was shipped to the U.S. it
had to be disassembled. The contructers had
350 parts to put back together and took four
months to do so!
President Grover Cleveland presided over
the marvelous event.

Many people in America appreciate The Statue of
Liberty stands in New York Harbor proudly to resemble
freedom to our nation in the U.S.
