The Byzantine was known as the Eastern Roman
Empire because it was in the east and roman
emperor Constantine chose Byzantium as the
capital of the new roman empire.

Due to its geographic location the Byzantine Empire was
very hard to conquer. Since Constantine was on a strait it
was difficult to breach


Monument Aux Morts: a bridge that goes across a mountain
Pont Sidi M’Cid: abridge that has a great view of the city and ocean
and is over a Canon.
Palais d'Ahmed Bey: A resort were people can go and get a nice
view of the beach/ocean.

He is traditionally known as Justinian the Great. He was
considered to ne a saint. He was the Emperor of the Byzantine
Empire from 527-565


1. Reconquer lands to the West: Justinian
reconquered much of the Mediterranean lands
2. Simplify Roman Laws:
The law code of the ancient Romans, which forms the basis
of civil law in many countries today.
3. Massive Building Program:
They built massive piers.

Empress Theodora was the wife of Emperor
Justinian. She influenced the laws involving women
such as divorce and property ownership.
Empress Theodora met Justinian at the hippodrome.



Empress Theodora was empress of the Byzantine
Empire and the wife of Emperor Justinian I. She was
one of the most influential and powerful of the
Byzantine empresses. Some sources mention her as
empress regnant with Justinian I as her co-regent.
Along with her husband
She is considered to be a saint in the Eastern Orthodox
Church. She was commemorated on November 14

The Byzantine Empire was a major cultural influence
of the eastern region of Europe and the Mediterranean.
Russia, in particular, experienced a great deal of
cultural diffusion from the Byzantine Empire.
Examples are:
1.The Eastern Orthodox religion
2.The Cyrillic (Greek) alphabet
3.Architecture
