     Neat and Tidy

     Benny was a handsome little boy who could 

not find any toy,book or even his favorite 

clothes when he wanted them.It really upset 

him to be so unable to find anything.Benny 

had lots of room for all of his clothes.He had a 

huge shelf for all of his books.He even had a 

few plastic pails for all of his favorite toys.

     Benny could not understand how to make it 

easier to get at any of his things so he 

continued to be frustrated with all of his 

untidiness. Mommy had straightened 

everything out for Benny.It was so much 

easier that way.There were only one thing 

wrong with mommy putting everything 

away.When Benny went to find something 

important to play with he took a long time to 

find it.

     Mommy wanted to keep Benny's toys, 

clothes and books in some kind of order.His 

room looked very neat most of the time.Just in 

case nanny and grandpa come to visit Benny's 

room would be presentable. One day Benny 

invited his friend over to play.It was a rainy 

day so they had to make their own fun 

inside.Adam was his friend's name. Adam had 

quite the imagination.Benny had wished he 

could be neat and tidy like him.

     Whenever Benny and Adam would hang out 

together. Adam would put the toys away when 

they were finished playing for the day.It was a 

habit Adam had always done.It was a good 

habit.Benny was quite curious as to how he 

could be so neat with his own things.One night 

as Benny lay in his bed he began to think 

about being a neater person.It was really nice 

that mommy helped in keeping everything he 

owned so neatly in their places.

     Benny had decided that if Adam could do it 

then he could be just as neat and tidy.As the 

warm sun rose it shone through his bedroom 

window.The entire bedroom looked very 

messy.Clothes were tossed about.The toys 

were spread around the room.It was not very 

safe to walk around with all the toys and books 

spread all over the floor.Benny rose from his 

bed and stood with a confused look upon his 

face.Where was he to start?

     Benny had to start somewhere so he 

decided to begin with his reading books.He 

thought for a few minutes as to how he would 

begin to make things much neater.The books 

would look so much neater if they were placed 

in order of size then his favorites.Benny liked 

that idea and so he placed all of his books in 

order.It took longer than he expected.Benny 

found himself looking through some of his 

books.

     When all the books were in place Benny 

looked at how nice it all looked.He felt so 

proud of what he had accomplished.Benny now 

knew putting his toys in order would be a 

bigger chore.When he looked at the great job 

he had did on his book shelf he knew the toys 

would be so much neater in their proper 

places.Benny placed the little cars in one 

container, the little toy figures were placed in 

another container.
