Once upon a time
there was a little
farm with a little
flock of chickens who
lived in a little
chicken coop
The chickens were
all different colors,
some of them black,
some red, some gold
and some were
speckled brown.

The rooster looked very different from all
the other chickens. He was a different
shape and size, and his feathers were very,
very different. His feathers stood up all
over his head and covered up his legs like
pants, and they even covered up his feet!
The feathers were very silky and soft and
made him look very fancy. His name was
Mr. Fancypants.

Mr. Fancypants
thought he was very
special because he
looked so fancy and
was prettier than all
of the other birds
on the farm.

He was always the first one
to wake up every morning,
and would stretch his neck
up, point his beak to the sky
and crow, "Er-Er-Er-Er-
Oooooh!" He did this many
times every morning and all
day long to let the other
chickens know that he was
extra special.

Mr. Fancypants was also very bossy
because he thought he was so fancy.
He pushed everybody around just
because he was so special. He wasn't
a very nice rooster. He was so mean
the other chickens ran away whenever
he walked by.
This made him think that he was the most special, only
special rooster in the world. He strutted around the
yard with his head held high, and was mean to anyone
who got near him. It made him feel special and powerful
when they ran away from him.

One day there were visitors
on the little farm.

One of the visitors was a
little dog named Charley.
Charley was the kind of dog
whose job it was to herd
animals. He didn't hurt
them, he just liked to run
around and make them go
where he wanted them to
go.
Charley had a lot of fun on the little farm herding
the chickens.

Mr. Fancypants did not
like Charley telling him
what to do. He was
special, so he shouldn't
have to do what all the
other chickens did!
Charley did not know
Mr. Fancypants felt this
way, and he tried to get
him to go with the other
chickens.
