Chapter 1

I'm surrounded by thousands of words   maybe millions. My name is 

Melody I'm eleven years old and   I'm disabled. I can't walk, talk, and my 

arms and legs are pretty   stiff so I can't hold stuff.Bummer right. I have a 

baby sister named Penny she gets all of the attention. My parents 

names are Amy and Bob. Tomorrow is going to be my first day back at 

spaulding street elementary I'm going to be in the 5th grade. I'm always 

taut   about how people are going to react to   me or think about me 

because I'm disabled, some people think I'm shortsighted but I'm very 

intelligent. The next morning my mom woke me up ran me a   bath 

washed me up and put my clothes on me. Then while my mom went to 

get my little sister ready my dad fed me breakfast and put me guardedly 

in my wheelchair and ran me to the bus. When I enrolled in the school 

some kids just stared at me some said hello and some didn't even pay 

me any mind. When I got to my classroom my teacher said good 

morning my name is Mr. Drumonnd   I waved and then I realized that 

everybody was staring at me I   urgently got embarrassed. 

I went to the back of the class a girl was sitting beside me she 

has a pink shirt with blue jeans and black boots she had curly 

brown hair to. She said Hi! My name is Rose. I smiled and 

waved at her. When Mr. Drummond got the class attention he 

told us that in three weeks we will have a 40 question 

competition with Ridge Elementary school and that the 

questions will be math, social studies, science and English. Then 

Mr.Drummond asked if there where any questions Two girls 

named Claire and Molly asked will we be on tv? Mr.Drummond 

answered yes, and we will be in Washington DC now everybody 

got inflamed. Then they asked another question won't we look 

dull on tv if we have that freak in a wheel chair with us? The 

whole class got muffled. I was muted for the rest of the day. 

When it was time to go Mrs.V my prodigious and innovated 

babysitter came to pick me up I tried to explain about the 40 

question competition but Mrs.V didn't understand.I got really 

absurd I tried to explain again she finally figured it out. When 

we got to her house she pulled out some flash cards and some 

other study materials.   

Mr.V and I studied the whole time until my parents came to 

pick me up. Mrs. V told my parents about the 40 question 

competition and about how its gonna be held at Washington DC 

and its gonna be on tv. When my parents got in the car all they 

talked about was the competition I could tell that they where 

ruffled and merry. When we got home my mom ran me a bath 

while my dad was feeding my baby sister.While I was in the 

bath I was thinking about what Claire and Molly said earlier 

today. When my mom took me out of the bath she put my 

pajamas on she fed me dinner and tucked me into bed and 

kissed me and said goodnight and shut my door.  

Chapter 2 

The next morning my mom woke me up ran me a bath put my clothes 

on me and put me in my wheelchair and wheeled me out to the 

kitchen so that   my dad can feed me when he was done. He   heedfully 

wheeled my wheelchair to the bus. When I got to school my school aid 

met me in the hallway. She imported herself and said hello Melody 

I'm Ms. Caroline I smiled and waved. She seemed really obliging I 

tried to explain to her but of course she didn't understand. I got really 

preposterous Ms. Caroline tried to tranquil me down. She wheeled me 

down to Mr. Drummond's class when we got there rose came up to me 

and asked me if I was eager about the competition I nodded. When 

class started Mr. Drummond rapidly started talking about the 

competition and about how we will study everyday until the 

competition. 

Mr. Drummond told everybody to stand up and go to the front 

of the classroom he split the class in half I was with Rose, 

Claire, and Molly and some other kids. I sort of likes my group 

only because of Rose just before we were about to start Claire 

and Molly moaned and asked why did you put that freak in a 

wheelchair in our group she can't even talk. Mr. Drummond 

told Claire and Molly to roost and then we started. 

Mr.Drummond asked 10 social studies questions I loved social 

studies I had to write my answers down while everybody else 

yelled there answer out. I got all the answers right but Molly 

missed like two questions so the other team was in the lead. 

Then Mr. Drummond asked 10 science questions I'm ok at 

science but I tried the best I could. I got one question wrong 

the rest of my team got them all right now my team was in the 

lead. The class took a break and we started on another lesson 

until it was time to go home.When it was time to go home Ms. 

Caroline wheeled me to Mrs.V's car.

When we got to Mrs. V's house she fed me a snack and we got 

the same   flashcards from yesterday and studied. We starting 

doing 5 math questions I discussed   math. She asked me 5 

fraction and mixed numbers questions I hated fractions they 

were so laborious but I tried really hard to get them right. I 

only got one wrong. Mrs. V started on the next 5 math 

questions they were place value, place value was so effortless 

I got them all Right Mrs. V was so jubilant for me. Then we 

started on english questions. Mrs. V asked me 5 verb questions 

I got two wrong I didn't really like verbs. Then Mrs.V gave me 

5 grammar questions I got them all right. When my mom 

came to pick me up Mrs. V told my mom how prime I did when 

we were studying. When we got home my mom fed me dinner 

ran me a bath and put my pajamas on me and tucked me in 

bed gave me a kiss said goodnight and shut the door.

Chapter 3 

The next morning my mom woke me, up ran me a bath, and fed 

me breakfast. When she was done feeding me she put my 

wheelchair on the bus. When I got to school Ms. Caroline showed 

me this flier It was a new wheelchair called the medi-talker you 

type and it talks for you and it has a controller to move you 

around. I was really provoked she put the flier in my book bag 

and told me to show my parents. When I got to Mr. Drummond's 

we studied for the last time because the competition was in three 

more weeks. When It was time to go home my mom came to 

pick me up today I tried to explain about the flier but she didn't 

understand so I decided to try to show her my book bag when we 

go home. When we got home I directed my finger to my book 

bag she got the flier out   smiled and hugged me. She called the 

number and they said it should be there in one week now I was 

really blithe.
