James Madison
· Shortest president: 5’4 and 100 pounds
· His face was on the $5000 bill, but the government stopped production in 1945.
· Never had any children of his own, but his wife had already had a son with her ex-husband so he helped raise his stepson.
· He loved ice cream; it was very hard to make it because of the lack of freezers. His wife’s favorite flavor was oyster
· Had a naughty sense of humor

John Adams
· 1st president to live in the White House: moved in when it was still being built.
· None of his family members attended his inauguration, he was very lonely that day.
· The only president of the first five presidents that was NOT a slaveholder, but was still against abolishing slavery.
· Died on the same day as Thomas Jefferson July 4th, 1826 of old age.
· His son, John Quincy, became the sixth president

Andrew Jackson
· A notorious gambler, when he was a teenager, he wagered off all of his grandfather’s inheritance on a trip, passion in life was racing and wagering on horses.
· Was the target of the first attempted presidential assassination a deranged house painter named Richard Lawrence shot at Jackson, one misfired, pulled another out, and that one misfired, then Jackson charged the man and beat him with his cane. Further investigation said both guns were perfectly fine and the odds were 125,000 to 1 for them both misfiring.
· Married his wife before she was legally divorced with her other husband
· Adopted two Native American boys named Theodore and Rachel, both died months later
· The only president to pay off the national debt in 1835, he really hated debt.

Andrew Johnson
· Had his own slave named Sam
· Known for enjoying alcohol
· Did not own any pets, but cared for a family of white mice in the White House
· Him and Bill Clinton were the only presidents to be impeached; charged with misconduct, was acquitted with one vote and was not charged
· Died of a stroke in July 31st, 1875.

Bill Clinton
· He and George H.W Bush were the only two presidents to be left handed.
· Also tied with George H.W. for being the tallest president, 6 foot 2 inches.
· Had a cat named Socks, but was allegedly allergic to cat dander.
· Was a very good saxophone player in high school and played in first chair for state band, but made a major career change after shaking hands with JFK and that he would never be as good as John Coltrane.
· MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech inspired him so much that he memorized the whole speech right after it was given.
