Victorian Era fathers had many parental roles. They normally worked very hard day in and day out to provide for their children and wives at home. Fathers shared experiences with other men in activities such as clubs, sports, and military service.

Victorian Era fathers had the image of being very stern and dominant. They were seen as very in-control of their household. Although they had the image of being very tough and stern, they could behave with great tenderness to their children when needed.

Upper Working Class Women
The jobs or roles of working women in the upper class could vary more than women in lower classes. For example, if a woman had a good education she might get a job as a governess.

Upper Working Class Women
If a woman was born into a family that had a lot of money, she might have been the owner of a small business. Although, most upper class women still had jobs such as higher domestic servants, worked as tradeswomen, or were small shopkeepers.

What Lower Class Men Did For Work
The men usually in the Victorian Era did more than what the women would usually do. A lot of children would also be out looking for jobs to do. The lower class jobs during the Victorian Era did not pay very well.

Different Jobs the Men Had
There were a variety of jobs that the lower class men had like working in factories or being a fisherman. Some worked at railways or in dock yard. Some other jobs you can have can be a blacksmith, builder, carpenter, or craftsmen of various kinds.

What Lower Class Women Did For Work
The lower class was typically less educated, had no pretensions to gentility and had fewer resources or opportunities and less luck. In 1860, there were even strikes by some of the towns washerwomen.
