I am Harrison Wells. This is my scrapbook of World War I. It was a very large war displaying the issues of the alliance system. It was first about the Triple Entente and the Triple Alliance fighting each other. I fought in the war representing the United States after certain conditions forced them to fight.

We weren't originally in the war to begin with but after Germany sank a ship with Americans on it, we wanted to go to war. Several other American ships were also sunk by Germany. Germany was also trying to turn Mexico against us, which was essentially the final straw.

The most important battle that the U.S. took part in was the Battle of Belleau Wood. There, we showed our ability to fight against the Germans. We made a few mistakes, but we managed to take the Belleau Wood. The tenacity of our forces scared the Germans. I assisted in attacking Hill 142 and fought the Germans back from Belleau Wood. This was important since the Germans would have gotten past us and possibly won the war that way.

The few times that I fought in the trenches were terrible. It was wet and cold. The food wasn't great. I couldn't sleep and feared for my life. If anyone tried to move past the trenches, they died. Gas almost got into the trenches, but the wind moved it away from us, luckily. If not, I probably would have died, since I didn't have a gas mask.

We were all given a rifle. It was a new gun what was pretty effective. It even had a bayonet. There was a pretty large range on it, allowing close-combat and gun fights to happen. It's pretty scary, taking away lives with it, but I have to. It's me or them.
