Koalas are found in eucalyptus forests and woodlands. Koalas are also found in coastal islands. Just like humans, koalas live in society, so they need to contact with other koalas. Koala populations only occur if there is suitable habitat available.

Joeys are born blind with no hair or ears. After about six months, joeys start to see, grow hair, grow ears, and walk or waddle without help. When they're about six months old, joeys venture out into the world. Even though they are starting to get around, joeys will still stay close to their mother.

Koalas are on a gum leaf diet.

Koalas sleep 22 hours a day because their bodies need a lot of energy to digest the gum leaves. Sleeping will save their energy.

Gum leaves are poisonous to lots of other animals.

Koala teeth are made to eat gum leaves. An adult koala eats between 200 to 400 grams of leaves everyday. Koalas eat leaves from certain trees and they rest on certain trees. Koalas like to eat leaves from different types of gum trees.
