Everyone knows that rain is when
water falls from the sky, but how
does that happen, where does rain
come from?

The Water Cycle
But what is the Water Cycle?
The water cycle is the way that we describe the cyclical movement of water on our planet Earth.

Because it is a cycle, there is no start or end point, but we will begin in the ocean for our story since most of our planet's water is in the Oceans.

The sun is the engine of the water cycle, fueling the entire process.

The sun heats the water in places like the ocean, rivers, lakes, and even puddles.
The water then evaporates, turning into water vapor in the air. Air currents then take the vapor up into the atmosphere.

As the water vapor rises higher, the atmosphere becomes cooler. As the water vapor cools off, the droplets begin to condense or stick together forming clouds.

Clouds are moved around the globe by currents of air, and as they collide into one another, they grow.

The colliding cloud particles stick together and form heavier water droplets. Eventually these droplets become so heavy that they fall from the sky as precipitation.
This falling precipitation can be in the form of rain or snow depending on temperatures.
