It was getting dark so he headed home to his wife and child . who didn't know his plan of building a waka without permission of Tana Mahuta the god of the forest

While Rata was sleeping the birds assembled the tree he had cut down

In the morning Rata arrived to the tree it was not lying on the ground it was standing up in the same position as it was before with not a single speck of sawdust left he was angry and astonished at the same time.he cut it down again and left it home once again because it was getting dark
