Digestive System
2
What is the digestive system?
The digestive system is is a group of organs working together to convert food into energy and basic nutrients to feed the entire body. In the next couple of slides I'm going to talk about all the organs that make up the digestive system, and how they work.
3
The mouth:
The first steep is your teeth. The teeth in your mouth break down the food so you can safely swallow it. First your teeth break down the food, then your Silvia breaches it down even further into small balls called a bolus.
4
The esophagus
When a person swallows food pushes into the esophagus which is a muscular tube that carries food and liquids from the mouth to the stomach. Once swallowing begins, it becomes involuntary and proceeds under the control of the esophagus and brain
5
Stomach
The function of the stomach is to breakdown food and liquids even further. How it breaks down the food and liquids further is by the stomach acids. And then it goes into the small intestine.
6
Small intestine
The function of the small intestine is to mix food with digestive juices from the pancreas, liver, and intestine and push the mixture forward to help with further digestion. The walls of the small intestine absorb the digested nutrients into the bloodstream and then blood delivers the nutrients to the rest of the body.
7
Large intestine
The function of the large intestine is to process waste products of the digestive process include undigested parts of food and older cells. Muscles push these waste products into the large intestine. The large intestine absorbs water and any remaining nutrients and changes the waste from liquid into stool the rectum stores stool until it pushes stool out of the body during a bowel movement.
8
Respiratory system
9
what is the respiratory system?
The respiratory system is a series of organs responsible for taking in oxygen and getting ride of carbon dioxide.
10
The airway
the nose, mouth, pharynx, larynx.
The nose-one of the body's main organ of smell and also functions as part of the body's respiratory system. Air comes into the body through the nose.
Pharynx- it is more commonly known as the throat. It plays an important role in digestion by ensuring that food goes down the esophagus and not the trachea .
Larynx-It manipulates pitch and volume. The larynx holds the vocal cords. The vocal cords are situated just below where the tract of the pharynx splits into the trachea and the esophagus.
11
The trachea, bronchi, and bronchioles.
Trachea-The trachea is a wide hollow tube that connects the larynx to the bronchi of the lungs.
Bronchi-The bronchi singularly known as a bronchus are extensions of the windpipe that shuttle air to and from the lungs.
Bronchioles- function of the bronchi and bronchioles is to carry air from the trachea into the lungs. Smooth muscle tissue in their walls helps to regulate airflow into the lungs.
12
Lungs
The lungs are a pair of large spongy organs found in the thorax diagonal to the heart and superior to the diaphragm. Each lung is surrounded by a pleura membrane that provides the lung with space to expand as well as a negative pressure space relative to the bodies.
13
What do the lungs do?
The lungs allow oxygen in the air to be taken into the body while also enabling the body to get rid of carbon dioxide in the air going out of your body.
14
Muscles in the respiratory system
The diaphragm is a thin sheet of skeletal muscle that forms on the floor of the thorax.
The intercostal muscles which are several groups of muscle that run through between the rib cage, and help form and move the chest wall.
15
What do they do?
The muscles are involved in the mechanical aspects of breathing. The muscles help expand and shrink the size of the chest cavity to facilitate your breathing.
16
Skeletal Sysytem
17
What is the skeletal system?
The framework of the body including bones and other connective tissues such as joints which protects and supports the body tissues and internal organs. The human skeleton contains 206 bones. In the next few slides I'm going to go through the main parts of the skeletal system.
18
Bones
The most important organ of the skeletal system is the bones. Human skeleton is made up of 206 bones that in coordinate to provides support and protection to the viscera with the help of muscles attached to them they also produces blood cells for the body from the bone marrow.
19
Tendons
Tendons which are similar to ligament are an organ in the skeletal system that join the muscles to the bone. Tendons are more flexible than ligaments. The contraction of tendon pulls the end of bone to which it is attached and makes that bone to move during walking and running.
20
Cartilage
Cartilage which is a firm tissue but is softer and much more flexible than bone. Cartilage is placed in various places in the body like, your nose, elbows, knees, ends of you ribs, between the vertebra in the spine, ears and nose, and the airway.
21
Circulatory system
22
What is the circulatory system?
The circulatory system which is also called the cardiovascular system or the vascular system is an organ system that allows blood to circulate and transport nutrients such as amino acids, electrolytes , oxygen, carbon dioxide, hormones, and blood cells to and from the cells in the body.
23
What is included in the circulatory system?
1. Heart- a hollow muscular organ that pumps the blood through the circulatory system by rhythmic contraction and dilation
2. Blood vessels-a tubular structure carrying blood through the tissues and organs; a vein, artery, or capillary.
24
3. Arteries- A blood vessel that carries blood from the heart to anywhere in the body.
4. Veins- Carries oxygen depleted blood towards the heart
5. Capillaries- any of the fine branching blood vessels that form a network between the arteries and the veins.
