There are many types of clouds that result in different types of weather. They are all at different altitudes, and have different sizes and shapes. So remember, when you read this book, there are many more types of clouds than we will tell you. All clouds are either made of water or ice.

Cirrus
They are the most common of the high clouds and are made of water crystals/ice. These clouds are above 6,000m (20,000ft) in the air. They are thin, wispy and are translucent. Cirrus clouds are usually white and predict fine weather.These are the clouds that indicates that the weather will change within 24 hours.

Stratus
Stratus clouds are a white-grey color and completely cover the sky.Most of the time they block out the sun. Light mist and drizzle sometimes fall from these clouds large clouds. They resemble fog that doesn't touch the ground.Their altitude is about 2000m (6,500ft)above the ground.

Nimbostratus
Nimbostratus clouds are noticeably dark grey and cover the whole sky. Precipitation can fall from these clouds, but they are usually light to moderate. They do block out the sun like regular stratus clouds.These clouds are pretty low, but not as low as fog. Their altitude is about 3,000m(9,800ft).

Cumulus
Cumulus clouds are white and puffy like the head of a cauliflower or a cotton ball. These clouds normally indicate great sunny weather. The base of these clouds are flat and the top is puffy with rounded edges. Cumulus clouds grow upwards into gigantic cumulonimbus clouds. The altitude of cumulus cloud is around 200m to 4,000m (700ft to 9,000ft).
