Mishell opened her eyes and looked around. She was contained in a small, white egg. Mishell hated closed spaces, so she quickly beat her flippers to push against the brittle walls of the egg. She screamed and beat the walls until she was free. Outside her egg lay a world full of bright colors. The sand was bright white and the ocean a dazzling turquoise. She dismissed the sand sticking to her body and crawled towards the water.

It took hours, but Mishell finally reached the ocean. She submerged herself in the water and began to swim. She was much faster in the water. She was actually good at something! This gave her self confidence a boost. She used to think she was useless and was extremely depressed. After all, her own mother had left her in her egg, all alone for the first minutes of her life! Mishell harbored her feelings and began swimming across the continental shelf.

She saw lots of vibrant sea life from all across the board. She saw plankton, benthos, and nekton! She even made friends with a lobster! He pinched her, so she called the police octopus. He told her that the lobster probably got distracted by her shoulders and thighs and she should follow the ocean dress code. Enraged, Mishell swam on. Mishell was in the sunlight zone, also known as the Epipelagic Zone.

In her anger, Mishell swam on furiously. She swam and swam and swam until she looked down and noticed the ocean floor was rapidly declining. Having a crippling fear of heights, Mishell felt utter panic and helplessness, a feeling she had suppressed for most of her life because of her issues with abandonment. Mishell blacked out for a few minutes and the current carried her on.

When she opened her eyes, she was freezing. The temperature had changed completely! She was in the twilight zone. There was little sunlight here. Mishell felt once more like all the hope had been drained from her. Suddenly, an angelfish neared her. She was fascinated by the glowing light atop it's head. She swam towards it, reaching out, when suddenly she was knocked aside.

"What were you thinking?" three voices asked Mishell. "Angelfish are suuuper dangerous, dudette. You could have died."
"Who are you?" questioned Mishell.
"Your new besties! I'm Shark, on my left is Derek, and on my right is Phipps." answered one.
"You want some jellyfish, brah?" Phipps inquired.
"Okay! What are those?" Mishell replied. Three minutes later Mishell knew exactly what they were and felt the best she had since she was born.

13
"Bruh, you know what's a good idea?"
"No bruh, I don't usually think."
"Bruh, let's go down to the abyssal zone."
"The pitch-black bottom layer of the ocean?"
"Yeah, bruh."
"Okay, bruh."
"Will we be safe, my dudes?" Mishell asked cautiously.
"I don't know. YOLOOOOO!" screamed Shark. Mishell followed her new friends blindly.

Once Mishell and her friends reached the bottom of the abyssal zone, Shark began screaming. Mishell, Derek, and Phipps laughed, thinking it was a joke. It wasn't. A giant squid ate Shark. Once they saw, they frantically swam farther down into a trench. The pressure was overwhelming. They felt their shells almost cracking. They sat anxiously, the jellyfish from earlier having worn off. Derek sat crying in a corner. Mishell paced back and forth, trying to wrap her head around what had just happened. Phipps was too upset to speak. He sat.
