The waves crashed and the storm raged on. Time stood still. On the royal ship Princess Kitana and Prince Eran were talking. "Will you marry me now?" Eran begged. Kitana shook her head. Kitana and Eran were the joint heirs to the throne of Valencia unless one of them fell in love and married before the crowning. Eran didn't want his competition to take the throne. Kitana wasn't interested in sharing anything, especially the crown, and she was willing to do anything to find her beloved secret husband with whom she was expecting a secret child. Eran thought that Kitana was trying to find love so he wanted Aric, who was a guard to ensure that Kitana wouldn't. They both agreed.

That night Kitana couldn't sleep until she realised she was in labor. She called in Searsha who was Aric's wife who helped her deliver the baby. She set her beautiful baby girl in one of Searsha's baskets, covered her in some linen, and lied down to sleep. That morning Eran banged on the door demanding to know why the linen and linen basket had vanished. He said he was sick of her refusing his proposals, so he decided to send her overboard and she was allowed one trunk to take in the boat. She panicked. He said that Searsha had decided to help her pack. Searsha entered the room and helped her pack one dress of hers, as well as food and a blanket for the baby.

Kitana packed everything up and took a quick bath, shampooing her hair and scrubbing her body so she would be clean during her ride. She ate some soup and fed her daughter. She also decided to name her Rayne because she was born during a storm. She kissed Ryane and put wrapped her in a blanket over her linen swaddle and set her on top of the trunk. She left the tip just open enough that Rayne could breath. She prayed that she didn't start to cry before she set off. As she was set in the boat, she whispered to Rayne, "It will all be okay my sweet. Momma loves you." She gurgled. Kitana smiled and took a breath as Eran cast them off. 'It will be an adventure alright!' Kitana thought as she drifted away.

As she drifted along, she drifted in and out of sleep. After two weeks and only 48 hours of sleep, Kitana ran out of food. Rayne was always cranky, so Kitana was too. The rare moment they would get asleep would be plagued by hunger pains. One morning, after Rayne stopped crying and managed to get a few drops of milk, and Kitana ate a crumb of moldy bread and a bite of potato, the boat began to rock. Kitana cursed. They had been lucky to avoid storms so far, but it looked like their luck had run out. Suddenly, a white sail appeared on the horizon. As they grew closer to the sail and farther from the storm, she recognized a pirate sail, but it was to late to boycott her journey. They spotted her.
