Dear: Voyage people,Announcing that I'm going to go on exploring trip. I'm going to
discover a new water route from Portugal to India.So we could
have a water route to trade and buy spices. I have the responsibility
of four ships, the Sao Gabriel, Sao Rafael, Berrio, and a supply ship.If
interested on joining my crew please come and talk to me, one week
before setting sail.

Sao Gabriel This ship was built under the supervision of Bartolome Diaz the size was
between 90-120t. With a length of 25.7 m and a draft of 2.3 m. Fully loaded
weight about 178t. Sails of 372 m square. The vessels carried three masts
the first one of 110 ft. The second 70 ft. The ship could six sails: a
bowsprit, foresail, mizzen, spritsail and two topsails. Total
of 4,000 square ft. I commanded this ship.
Sao RafaelWas the sister ship to Sao Gabriel commanded by my
brother Paulo da Gama. Had similiar dimensions of the
Sao Gabriel ship.
CaravelThis ship was smaller then the other two. Has a length of
20 to 30 m. Displayed about 50t.
This ship was commanded by Nicolau Coelho. The caravel
was the fastest of all. It could sail with wind and were
easier to navigate with. It's narrows were ellipsoidal
frame, meaning this made it more faster.
Supply shipThis ship carried all the supplies needed
for the voyage. This ship was commanded
by Goncalo Nunes.
Help wanted crew:I will need the fallowing for my crew
membership:
- For all ships will need co-captains to help run
the ships crew.
-For all ship will need at least 40 crew
members to help out in each ship:
*Will need well educated civilians.
*10 convicts separated between all four ships.
-For my ship and my brothers will need 2
civilian translator.
I was born in Sines, Portugal. My father's name Estevao da Gama who served in the 1460 as a knight
of the household. My mother's name Isabel Sodre. I
was the third of five siblings.I then decided to enter
Order of Santiago like my father. After a few years my
prospect rose accordingly. My master gave me a mission to the
port of Setúbal and to the Algarve to seize French ships.
In retaliation for peacetime depredations against Portuguese
shipping. This task I performed rapidly effectively. I decide to
explore again after my master John II objective on finding seas
routes to Asia. By sailing under the Africa continent. I am going
to set sail exploring, a new water route from Portugal to India.
July 7, 1497: I am starting this log before I set sail tomorrow so I can record many of the things that have happened prior to now.
I have been given the responsibility of four ships, the Sao Gabriel,
Sao Rafael, Berrio, and a supply ship. These ships have
been given to me by the order of King Manuel I.
The King has ordered me to find a water route from
Portugal to India. Along with these four ships, King Manuel I
has assigned me 170 men, mainly middle class to lower
class people, not including myself, to go on this voyage.
Our first stop on our tip will be at the Cape Verde Islands,
where we will restock on supplies the we will need for
the trip to Cape of Good Hope. Going to have some sleep very
excited yeyyy!
July 8, 1497: This morning the crew loaded the food and supplies upon the boat. I saw them loading
the exact things I ordered. Some of these things
were beer and water. After making sure all of the
supplies got on board, I made one trip from bow to stern
of each ship, double checking that everything made it aboard
safely. Finally we set sail from Port Tagus, in Portugal, on a
journey to India.
