We moved to our new house a couple of weeks ago. It was a nice house in a nice neighbourhood. There were lots of kids my age that my sister and I could hang out with. The man that previously owned the house had really kept it in good shape. He even had a cool name, Lex Champion. For some reason we kept getting his mail and he never gave us his new address.

I know that it's impolite to read other people's mail, especially if it belongs to a stranger, but one letter caught my eye. The handwriting on the envelope was very fancy and up in the corner it said "URGENT." I looked around to make sure my parents weren't around before I ripped open the letter and began to read it.

Dear Mr. Champion,
This letter may seem a little bizarre but I need your help. My name is also Lex Champion and I am an Explorer. I am looking to put together a team of people who share our name to rescue my partners who are trapped in Central America. An earthquake hit the village we were in and the two got buried under some rubble. I have chosen to contact other Lex Champions with diverse backgrounds to join me on this mission. I know that you have a geology background and that will come in handy as we climb the rocky terrain. If you are interested, our flight will be leaving Sandpiper Airlines at 6 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
Cheers,
Lex Champion, Explorer and Cool Guy

SANDPIPER
AIRLINES
The responsible thing would have been to tell my parents about the letter or to just have ignored it. But then we'd have no story now would we? I woke up early the next morning and called a taxi. "Where to Mac?" asked the cabbie. "Sandpiper Airlines" I said in my deepest voice.

I paid my cab fare (in dimes and nickels), which the taxi driver didn't seem to care for and headed over to a group of men waiting for the plane. There was a doctor (a surgeon to be precise), a banker (to finance the trip), and a technology expert. All of them were named Lex Champion. I pulled my hat over my eyes so that they wouldn't notice how young I was.
9
I was getting all kinds of weird looks from my fellow passengers. I just stared out the window and said nothing. Half way through the flight, the legendary, world-famous explorer Lex Champion put the plane on autopilot and came to talk to us.
10
"Good day gentleman" he said. "Thank you for joining me on this mission. My friends and I were delivering supplies to a village in Central America when we were rocked by an earthquake. Everybody is okay except my two friends got trapped under some rocks. They are running low on food and water. They've been trapped for 127 hours and may not make it out alive." "Oh, and our inflight movie stars Adam Sandler."
11
"NOOOOOOOOOOO!"
12
It was just me, the tech expert, the surgeon, and the explorer now. We all sat in silence for the rest of the flight. "Buckle up. We will be landing shortly. We only have a few hours and limited supplies. There are wild animals all over the place so don't get eaten." We all laughed. "No seriously, don't get eaten." "GULP!"
13
14
As we were about to land, the plane began shaking. Everyone in the plane was being tossed around like clothes in the washing machine. Our luggage was flying all over the place. My underwear and socks were everywhere. After a few scary moments the plane came to a sudden stop. We were very lucky as no one was seriously injured.
15
16
Aside from a few cuts and bruises, we all survived. The explorer had a small cut on his arm. "Stitch me up Doc." "Eww! That is so gross!" the doctor said before he fainted. "Doc? Doc? I don't get it. He's a heart surgeon. Guess it's just the three of us now." We loaded up our supplies and headed into the jungle. What had started out as a fun little adventure had suddenly gotten very serious.
17
18
It was so humid in the jungle that soon we were all drenched in sweat. I had packed a bottle of water but by now it was warm as soup. I still drank it as I was very thirsty. After walking through the jungle, we came upon some ancient ruins. "What's this place?" I asked. "It's called Templo de la Serpiente or Temple of the Snake." Temple of the Snake? Yikes!
19
20
"Snakes were worshipped by the Menudo Tribe who used to live in this area. They would pray to the snakes to keep them safe and provide them with a big harvest every season." My mind began to wander as the explorer continued his history lesson. How do you make snakes boring? Oh cool! Is that a mask. "Hey guys, look at me! I'm the Serpent King!" "No! Take that off right now!" "Why?"
21
"THAT'S WHY!"
22
Apparently by putting on that mask I may have accidentally woken up the Serpent King who had asleep for over 1000 years. My bad. "Quick, everybody into the temple!" We ran as fast as we could up the stairs to the entrance. The explorer rammed his shoulder into the door as we barely outran the slithering serpent. We were safe for now but at the mercy of the gigantic snake.
23
24
We sat around for what felt like hours waiting for the snake to leave. The tech expert peeked out of a crack in the door and saw that the snake was gone but so were our supplies. The explorer who had been so cool and calm was starting to get frazzled. "Alright computer whiz, what are our coordinates?" "I, uh, we're, uh...." "What the...? You've been playing Minecraft this whole time?"
