Brown Bear had lived in the South Woods all of his life. He knew these woods like the back of his paw. He knew where the best creeks and rivers were for catching fish. He knew where the best shade trees were to stay cool in the summer. He and his little family also lived in one of the best bear caves for hibernating in the wintertime.
Still, Brown Bear had become to grow tired of the South Woods. He had lost the excitement of running the trails with his baby Brother Bear. The river was always crowded with other bears these hot summer days, and he was also fearful of the hunters who knew the South Woods just as good as he did. He longed to be somewhere different.
One very hot summer day, Brown Bear decided he was done being crowded at the river with the rest of the bear society. So he decided that it was the perfect time to go discover all of the things he was thinking and dreaming about outside of the South Woods. Setting forth on his own, he told no one of his plan. He walked away silently.
He walked down the stream that bordered the woods, excitement growing with every step. This is the first time he would truly be on his own. He took the first path he saw, and walked into The WILD.
Walking along the unfamiliar path, Brown Bear noticed things he never had before, sights and sounds flooded his senses and he had the feeling of complete independence. Being in the wild was going to be more fun than he thought. He was going to make each day count, doing whatever he wanted to do with them!
After spending many days walking in the woods and many nights sleeping out under the stars and the moon, Brown Bear awoke one morning still feeling very hungry and still tired. It was a beautiful morning, and he loved the way the woods looked in the mist. He knew he should try to find his own shelter in case any storms came up.
