In 1835, a hero was born. Her name was Rani Laxmi Bai. Her father was important at a court in her Indian state of Jhansi, and she was allowed to do more things than other girls. She learned how to defend herself, she learned horsemanship, and she learned archery. When she was seven, she married the ruler of Jhansi and became a queen.

When Rani was older, she had a son who was named Damodar Rao. Unfortunately, when he was four months old, he passed away. His father, Raja, became so sad about this that he died two years later. He had adopted a son named Anand Rao after Damodar died. With her husband dead, Rani decided to protect Jhansi even though she was only eighteen.
