In November 1835, a Queen was born. Her name was Rani Laxmi Bai. She ruled Maratha, which was the northern part of India. Her father worked at the Peshwa court. Because of this, Rani had more independence then most woman. She got married to Raja Gangadhar at the age 7.

In 1851 she gave birth to a beautiful son but he soon died at only four moths. Due to this her new husband Raja Gangadhlar died from the heartbreak of there loss. She was forced to rule her kingdom by herself but later adopted a son for her company.

Rani was granted an annual pension of 60,000 to leave the fort, but she declined. Rani built up an army of rebellions and was determined to not give up.

On may 10th 1857 the Indian rebellion began. Rani was forced to rule Jhanasi alone and lead her troops efficiently. She hesitated at first on rebelling but when the British troops arrived her mid soon changed. The British breached the walls and took over the kingdom but Rani escaped just as night fell.
